Watched Power of the Dog tonight. Loved it. Seen a lot of reviews of people saying it was too subtle but I got it pretty quickly, probably because I watched with subtitles. Definitely a slow burn, though. The Anti-Marvel-Movie (which I consider a compliment).
Coen Bros Films NCFOM Millers Crossing Big Lebowski Fargo Raising Arizona O Brother Burn After Reading True Grit Buster Scruggs Blood Simple A serious Man Inside Llewelyn Davis Barton Fink Hudsucker Proxy Hail Ceaser The Man Who Wasn’t There The Ladykillers In order. What a god damn catalogue
I on a whim went with some friends to see NCFOM in theaters. I left that theater amazed. Anton Chigurh is my favorite antagonist in cinema and it isn’t frankly close
Ledgers Joker and Denzel as Alonzo Harris in Training Day are up there for me as well but Anton is really on a mountain by himself
Next on my list after I finish Once Upon A Time in Hollywood. It’s a must read if you like Tarantino. It’s his complete director cut put into book form. The movie would have been 7 hrs long but worth it.
i am not a movie geek but I recently listened to a Tarantino interview and it made me realize how there is so much work and thoughts and experiences into a 2 and a half hour movie. It’s like a huge puzzle and somehow Tarantino almost always fits it together.
I have no idea how to feel after that. On one hand, the ending seemed 100% certain, just a matter of time. On the other, why did it happen then?
Yes. It goes in depth into everything that the movie touches on. The movie is like the Cliff notes of the book. Pun intended. You learn a whole lot more about all of the characters and the Manson stuff as well. Lots of movie stuff as well and it’s all based on actual movies so it’s basically a must see list from Tarantino on old movies throughout the book. Im reading it but it’s on audible and narrated by Jennifer Jason Leigh.
I would put Alpanist up there with my favorite docs of all time. Enjoyed it as much as some of my other favorites
That content would be mostly mud, blood, and gas. I do agree though. The totality in the differences in warfare tactics would be fascinating, especially considering the magnitude of changes only 30 years later. They went from earthworks, trench warfare, and suicidal charges to blitzkreig which was remarkable. The idea that your tank groups would just bypass areas of resistance, get behind and disrupt supply lines, and then create pockets by cutting off a retreat was brilliant. Pompey employed similar tactics (double envelopment) in the 2nd Punic War but it also relies on overconfidence of your enemy. In this case it didn’t matter what the French or the Soviets did. Massive swathes were encircled and captured.
30 minutes in and basically every character has annoyed the hell out of me so far satire turned up to this degree is just painful
You put it well by saying irritating. I get what they were trying to do but it just wasn't as funny as they wanted it to be imo. Huge casting... Netflix had to have paid a ton.
feel like a lot of anger went into making Don't look Up, and while I understand the viewpoint, execution on the character side was just fucking awful
Oh man what a miss Don’t Look Up was, the serious moments were so good but the comedy was horrific. Great cast just a shame that’s what they did with their chance.
Thought Don’t Look Up was just ok. Had some moments, but overall the execution was bad as mentioned above
Don’t look up was fine, plenty of worse movies out there, especially Netflix ones. Thought the comparison to a “modern” Idiocracy was good. Deff not as good, but same vibes.
Watching the mini series Clickbait. Am halfway thru episode 4 of 8. Pretty slow going and only kind of interesting but just enough that I'm going to have to see this thing out thru episode 8. T's & P's appreciated that it pays off in the end
Finished it. I would call it good but nothing better than that. It was 8, 45 min. episodes but with some editing they could have gotten it down to 6 episodes and it would've been much better. Just wanted to be done with it.
The Alpinist Spoiler Well fuck. That one certainly has a different ending than some of the climbing docs
This reads hilarious. Spoiler really got me because of all the interviews talking about him walking a tightrope, pressing his luck, etc…..
