Anyone play any tabletop games? With this many nerds, I can't be the only one painting minis and rolling dice. I'm pretty heavily invested in the various Games Workshop games - Warhammer 40k mostly with some Kill Team and Age of Sigmar sprinkled in. I've got roughly 4500 points of Death Guard/Nurgle and about 800 points of Orks. Then something like 1500 points of Seraphon for AoS. I would love to get into Blood Bowl eventually as well. I've also got a small army of American paratroopers for Bolt Action but no one around here plays it. And while this is more of a traditional board game, I'm beyond excited for this to release next year:
I started playing XWing a couple years ago, but unfortunately my move this summer took me somewhere I can’t find anyone that plays.
It looks like a fun game. Fantasy Flight makes good stuff. My 40k crusade league met the other night and there were a few tables playing X-wing. Sometimes I kinda wish GW sold assembled and painted minis like that. I'm much more of gamer than a painter
I bought Star Wars Legion last year in hopes to start painting the mini's, but I just was too timid to try and start/learn the full process to do it right. I'm OCD and would be too bothered by any of them looking like shit to start on my own. Then when COVID got bad, the shop that I was going to try and go to learn the painting side of it shut down. Now I'm just stuck with a bunch of XWing and some Legion stuff with nowhere to use/learn haha. Pre-COVID I went to a XWing tournament in Dallas and had a really good time. Results weren't great but I had a good time and thought I played decently well considering I'd only been playing for less than a year.
My cousin and some of our friends got super into 40k. I don’t have the time / money for my own army, but the lore is fascinating. Any good spot to start reading about the origin story of humans up through the Horace Heresy?
glimmer - best YouTube/podcast to learn 40k? I’m aware of mechanics, but curious for the different factions/races/lore/etc
like a year late to this but lexicanum has all the lore you’d ever need https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Main_Page humble bundle will also frequently do huge sales on warhammer ebooks as well https://youtube.com/@auspextactics auspex is a great channel for all kinds of 40k content, it’s good stuff. https://youtube.com/@PlayOnTabletop play on has without a doubt my favorite battle reports honestly, reading goonhammer has been my number one resource for understanding the game, both in terms of mechanics and background
So I had bought the Star Wars legion core set during covid, and it had been packed away. Found it a few weeks ago(two moves ago) and think I’m going to commit to these mini’s being my first try with painting. I bought spray primer and the legion specific paints too(because I am/was a sucker). Any of you that peruse here paint?
i’ve done a bit! i wouldn’t say i’m all that good but i’ve got a little experience with materials and techniques
first mini i painted: last mini i painted: i painted 3 of these, probably my favorite death guard kit from a hobby perspective:
Took the dive. Purchased a combat patrol box of Dark Angels. Really excited to build some models and do some painting. Supplies should get here on the 9th
Have only had a chance to almost finish one. Still want to change some stuff on this model. Gun has too much silver metal and don’t like how the silver looks on the marine. Need to go back over and cover that up, then want to get a sponge and do a little stippling for some weathering and get fancy with some edge highlights. Got some cheap hand me down stuff from some friends so I’m just practicing on some right now. Spoiler: Space Marine
looks nice! i bet the silver would blend in a lot better if you bathed it in nuln oil. another cool trick is using a metallic base coat like that silver under one of GW’s contrast paints. gives you a metallic quality to whatever color contrast paint you use
those are really nice. i’ll probably get me a knight in the nearish future, more as a hobby project than actually building an army
Wow this thread brought back some memories. Here is one of my dreadnoughts. Painted in 2005 (height of DoW1 era) Spoiler
glimmer Jeffrey Lebowski Lucky24Seven VASooner or any others Family member had a friend that was clearing stuff out and came across this. Found a recent sale on eBay from Europe for $150, and wondering if that’s a fair price to ask, or if you guys would recommend otherwise? Also, is eBay best route? Or is Facebook/Reddit a better area to sell Warhammer?
ebay is a solid place and would probably be my go-to. it’s where i’ve purchased all the oldhammer stuff i’ve collected. i’ve also had decent luck selling and trading on reddit. either way that’s really cool and a fairly rare find, it should sell pretty easily. are all the bits in the box and on the sprue?
One of my buddies works for a games shop. I’ll ask him. He does a lot of the old Warhammer stuff. I’d check eBay for listing options. I’ll let you know what I hear.
Thanks. I searched around yesterday for info and the only post/sale I found was that one I shared. I know next to nothing on Warhammer, so appreciate any/all help
Also picked up and am splitting a box of the Wrath of the Soulf Forge King set. Has a good amount of my Dark Angels army.
