I listened to firebug. I thought it was ok, but skipped the last few once the main story had some resolution
I don't like Garrison but the latest ep on a brief history of rectally inserting eels was entertaining.
I agree. I’ve just used it so much that I’m used to it at this point. I don’t like how it recommends a podcast I’ve listed to that doesn’t have new episodes and I’m all caught up. Thanks Spotify!
Whoever was on the BTB podcast about Cryptocurrency as the guest was the least funny person I have ever listened. I didn't finish listening because it was so annoying
Honestly though I like the episodes with Nick a lot more so I haven't listened in awhile. Liam doesn't do much for me Nick and Joe arguing about whether the movie Backdraft was cool or stupid in one of the Soviet-Afghan War episodes killed me
Finished up American Radical this morning. It dealt with the fat lady that died at the January 6th insurrection. It’s worth a listen but at times it was annoying because they were a little too soft on criticizing right wing media, and they didn’t really have a final resolution.
Any good history podcasts that folks would recommend? I’m going to be on the road for ~10 hours and looking for something to listen to.
Martyr Made has a fantastic mini series on everything that led up to the Israeli Palestinian conflict today. Less current issues and more of how we ended up with the state of Israel.
You can buy them. Whole library is like 80 bucks. They give you a URL to put in your podcast app and then you have access to the whole catalog. You can also get episodes al a carte.
Trill Withers has shut down his Patreon with news to come, probably a more stable gig at somewhere bigger. Hope he ends up somewhere good and spits out more content, probably my favorite guy on the internet.
I don’t see the subscription model as sustainable in the long term. I’m already paying for tons of streaming content between Netflix, Amazon, Disney+, Hulu, Amazon music, etc., so even when it’s “just” $5 a month I have no appetite to pay for individual podcasts, too.
I pay 7/mo for a handful of podcasts. The way Im looking at it these days in the time I'm investing into something. I'm happy to pay for the podcasts I love, esp if it means I listen to fewer ads. Then apps like Strava from which I gain so much benefit from without being bombarded with ads. Podcasts are such a weird intimate thing that we get attached to. They deserve remuneration if we listen to them for hours per week IMO
I'm just pissed that I pay for Spotify and then I still have to listen to ads on Spotify podcasts I thought this was America
Not an avid reader of thread but found an outstanding pod from my perspective. Podcast is called Combat Story. Guy interviews elite soldier unit members and they talk about combat. disclaimer, I’ll have to listen to more to see how acronym heavy it is. I’m only two in, just throwing it out there if you don’t know many military acronyms it may be obnoxious to listen to.
This has been pretty solid so far. About the psychedelics industry and a gal they put through the ringer. Into the second episode and enjoying. https://luminary.link/R4BuaeZ7Elb
You knew Carl would catch it quick. The second time this has happened in a way (The Timekeeper thinking Tom Petty was from Tally)
The last two Behind the Bastards have been in the Dewey Decimal system and Nathans Hotdog Contest I think he’s run out of bastards.
I'm giving it a shot...hasn't really hooked me through the first 2, but I'll power on cause it isn't terrible.
Watched The Last Gangster on Hulu, which was pretty good. Anyway, the last section is about the Our Thing podcast and there is an episode of Mafia States of America where he and Michael Franzese are arguing -- did anyone hear that?
I heard Sammy talking some shit about the Netflix show and Franzese on one of the latest podcast episodes
I got burned out on these first hand accounts from ex mobsters. They all seem full of shit and somehow are the only noble ones that stuck to the code. Until they didnt and were the only ones with a really good reason to cooperate with the feds. That said - Deep Cover S02 covers a mob lawyer in Chicago that bought off judges. Pretty good so far
Yeah, I cant listen to Our Thing anymore. There is no flow and now he is just releasing stories all the time too.
He’s starting his own podcast so that’s also making Our Thing really weird to listen to a lot of the time. The penis pump thing is was pretty funny, tho.
there's at least 2 episodes every single week, so every one can't cover high stakes historical events. robert makes a fuckload of content and sometimes you just gotta have a guest host or a shapiro reading.
