Not sure which variant but it’s blowing through where I live. Sinus infections and cough with some mild cases of losing smell and or taste for 2-3 days
That’s the equivalent of 600k positive tests in the US for us today. All with 92%+ of 12 and up fully vaccinated and 50% of adults boosted. oooft
It’ll be interesting in January to see how fast this thing spreads after the fear of spreading covid at Christmas is out of the picture. Observationally, it seems like most people are canceling holiday plans and/or going into a quasi lockdown the past 1-2 weeks (to be able to have a “safe” Christmas) since for many this represents the time of the year they’re in close contact with more at-risk groups. Come January I’d imagine people will start socializing more again, whether formally or informally.
Back to the office today. Only have 2 nurses for 4.5 doctors today, urgent care closed down because every part of that staff called in.
I really think a hell of a lot fewer people are going to cancel plans this year vs last year. Given how incredibly infectious this variant is, we may just burn through the whole country in a matter of a few weeks like Gauteng rather than this drag out into late February.
This We have my wife’s family coming up tomorrow for 3 days and then traveling to see my side of the family on the 27th. Even with older folks and compromised immune systems, everyone is pretty much lockstep with “we are all vaxxed + boosted…we can’t do anything else…2 years is enough…” We’ll see how flagrant this behavior is just in time for schools to pack em in again.
My company is hosting our company wide, end of year party January 5-7 in Nashville (corporate hq). 5 offices all over country flying to HQ. Once omicron started picking up I began asking questions “still happening”, “what, if any, mitigation measures are in place” or if it was just business as usual (breakfast buffets, happy hours, etc). I’ve seen from a distance how flippant they’ve been, at least in Nashville office - never once mandated masks inside, no vax mandates even though our biggest clients in healthcare and assisted living require it. They finally sent out email regarding the party…. 1. if no vax, mask entire time 2. If vax, your choice to wear mask 3. If uncomfortable, no requirement to attend I was blown away #3 was option but that’s what I’m taking. There sure as shit won’t be any distancing or any other mitigation measures in place, and there’s no way I’m flying across the country just to bring Covid back home to my family. Our CFO told me they might have temp checks. I laughed.
My wife’s clinic is offering $1000 bonus for a full nursing shift tomorrow. There are currently 2 doctors and 6 nurses out with covid which is like 40% of the full time staff.
my Mom was waiting on my sister to get their boosters together for some reason. Sister was waiting for instructions from her rheumatologist to proceed. Pretty pumped my sister made it to her winter break without catching it from middle schoolers and they're both now boosted
Like, incentive for people to come in on their day off or something? Gotta be pretty damn careful about incentivizing sick people to come in
Situation in MN is weird. One of the earliest US omicron cases identified was a MN dude, yet we are apparently only ~20% omicron cases as of yesterday, our ID dept informs me. As compared to like 55% nationwide. And MN sequences more cases than about anyone, so it's a pretty confident estimate. Overall cases and hospitalizations downtrending. We'll see how long that lasts
Where can I read about trumpers melting down that trump is pro vaccine? This is the content I didn't know I needed
Should be an absolute dagger the dems use like Rick Fox for the early 00s Lakers. Either the chuds will relent and get vaxed like their hero or they'll reject him and tank his electoral #s
Talked to someone that got their first shot last week. I guess omicron has people worried and I’m glad people are getting vaccinated but it’s probably too late to beat the clock there.
Positive, happy to be vaccinated, as it’s pretty much just a cough/cold. Omicron is everywhere in Montreal. Around 15 of us positive at work now (we shut down 2 days ago). Everyone wears their mask all the time, even in the dressing room, so that sucks.
T's and P's man, but glad to hear it's mild. Where do you work where there is a dressing room? Or is that some sort of Canadian lingo?

exactly. but they don't say that in the tweet. they just say effective. and then idiots run with "the vaccine isn't effective anymore". which is wrong. it's doing a great job keeping people out of the hospital and from dying. that's what really matter the most.
saying boosted adults may have minor symptoms doesn’t get clicks or looks from the doomposters tho so who’s to say what really matters
Locker room/dressing room/employees room, I guess? Might be canadian lingo. The room where we put on our work uniform?
I mean, Google translates dressing room to vestiaire (the french word). It’s what we were taught for years in ESL. What term is normally used south of the border? Locker room? Nice to see Daniel Radcliffe has found a second breath to his career though.
this is the problem with filtering everything through twitter. People condense 30 pages of dense statistics down into 200 characters.
