Been thinking about getting on the list for a no date sub (I know, I know… yawn.) But, now I’m thinking one of the older 40mm sea-dwellers. I really dislike the cyclops.
I picked up this conversion case from AliExpress to replace the resin on my GW-M5610. The bracelet is actually really well done. Solid end links that really make it look like an integrated bracelet, milled clasp with 4 microadjusts. Not bad for $60.
I don’t usually like the brand’s offerings, but I like this black Monaco. That’s a good looker for under $3k.
Pretty sure I'm on deck for the Daytona, at my AD. Just sent brother-in-law to my girl to buy an engagement ring, for good measure. I'm weirdly not excited about it & can't really decide what I want next. GS SBGY007 "Omiwatari" is really the only thing that's caught my eye, but only kinda moves the needle for me. I might be officially "done" for awhile
I'd be excited for a Daytona, but more because I've always admired that watch and less because it's become a hot item. It's kind of how I feel about my brother lining me up for the Aquanaut. I've always eyed it, but it loses a bit of luster being so popular right now. Regardless, I'm jealous AF.
Bought an engagement ring this fall and picked it up right around when the 5711 Tiffany Nautilus was dropping. I bought the ring at a Tiffany boutique, so I jokingly asked when I could expect my call for the 5711. The look of confusion and disregard given to me by my girl despite what I thought was an obvious joke was painful. Anyways, my Royal Oak is going in for servicing and I've been wearing the 126600 and it's starting to feel bulky as a daily wearer. I've loved that one, but may have to trade it in for something new.
I am admittedly susceptible to the hype in this hobby. I don’t favor complications. I think the cyclops is gaudy and detracts from a clean dial. They may be technological marvels, but Richard Mille (and even the Royal Oak Concepts pieces) are gauche and not my style. BUT, having said that, I’m still drawn to the Daytona because of the tradition (but it’s more because of the hype and overall media exposure.)
Sometimes the hype helps me get into something I otherwise wouldn't. There are some Richard Mille references that I really like now, because I've almost been forced to learn more about them because of exposure. It would be a process for me to buy one (finding the right fit), primarily because they're so out there compared to what I normally wear, but I can see one in my collection at some point whereas a few years ago I would've laughed at the idea. The cyclops is interesting, I'm also not generally a fan, but I bought the 126600 specifically because of the cyclops, because of the intention of Rolex to include it on the original reference only to be limited technologically. I thought that was cool (and also distinguished it a bit from other SDs.) Speaking of the tradition of Daytonas, I was in London last week and VWC had a 6263 that I gave a loooong look. Those dreamy red letters.
I'm excited. But it's less for the watch & more because of scarcity/my ability to get it at retail. I'll end up grabbing it when available, because I can & it would be irresponsible not to do so... which isn't why I've purchased any other piece.
For whatever it’s worth, it’s a fun watch to wear and might grow on you. If not, my sister and mom both love wearing my dad’s, so I’m sure your wife would take it if you don’t love it.
No doubt, it's a great piece & she might "steal" it. I'm too partial to my Speedy, so it will most likely sit in a safe until flipped to a haute horology piece down the road.
Does anyone have a SPB143? I think I am buying one here shortly. Been looking at a lot of youtube and reviews and it seems like the best you will do at the 1000 price point.
Do people on here buy/sell/trade between each other? Sorry, I try to follow along, but wasn't sure if people make any deals on here. Cough cough... looking for speedmaster or seamaster if anyone looking to unload or make a deal.
Found a good deal on a mint condition with warranty yesterday on r/watchexhange. Won’t get it for a few days.
does anyone have any experience with Oris? It seems like they recently updated their inhouse movement. I have worn a watch everyday for a long time, and i like the "everyday watch" options Oris has. I guess i cant seem to justify an Aqua Terra, and an Oris seems like a reasonable upgrade. Just having a hard time understanding what its offering that a Hamilton or Seiko doesnt. they seem to pop up a lot on reddit's watch exchange...
I have 2 and love them. Not sure what anything really offers over another other than preference and rarity, but they are built well, look great imo, and at least seem to hold value pretty well. I see fewer of those than I do of hamilton and certainly seiko in the wild.
Hey fellers. Looking for a new watch and could use some suggestions. -Price range is under a grand -Looking for something casual I could wear anywhere -Preferably nothing with a giant face Anyone have any brands they like?
Hamilton Junghans Zelos Laco Tissot Doxa Teddy Baldassarree does this topic all the time, and I like a lot of his recommendations here (especially if you can pick one up in good used condition.)
Also miles I’ll add in one that’s not on his list: the Seiko Presage Sharp Edge Series Date Display line. https://www.seikowatches.com/global-en/products/presage/special/sharp_edged_series/ They’re just under a grand but may be on the larger side for a daily wearing watch.
Very specific, minimalist (“Bauhaus”) aesthetic. I like it, it’s very polarizing though… no one is really in between on that look.
Poll time, gents. I'm on the fence about the hardware for my strap. It will be similar to this with nicer leather. Question is: black hardware or brushed nickel? Had initially thought black, but I'm wondering if that will eventually chip. The brushed nickel would match the accent markers. Brushed would be removable and black would be sewn in/permanent. Thoughts?
(almost) every watch should have drilled lugs, you cannot change my mind. in before "my 5711 doesn't need drilled lugs!"
MLS wants to do a 3 - 4 set of watches in each timezone framed with a backdrop - I'm typically a Debbie downer and am repetitively critical of design ideas but may be a fan of this one, however it would be a headache to have to wind pretty frequently unless there is some niche installer that makes sense for this.
It’s nothing compared to most of what y’all have, but this has been my go-to for the past 6 years and I love it.
Yesterday, I suggested to the wife that I was considering making a request for the new 2-Tone Explorer, from a secondary AD that I’ve built a relationship. Timing is everything in life boys & I caught her after a horrible day at the hospital… Now she’ll be cashing in the equity I’ve built. Was told 6 months
Buddy took possession of his SuperOcean yesterday… it’s his 1st big purchase, so he’s geeked out & sending me a million pics. Credit where it’s due… Breitling did a great job on this one. Absolutely love the way light changes the watch face. Spoiler
I hate that bracelet though. I hate it so much. It’s actually worse than the old Seamaster bracelet, which is saying something.
