burn it all to the ground. Whatever gets a clean sweep of the staff and more importantly, the entire AD from Rick, to Carl, to Plati.
Literally not a single positive development for Rick George or KD to sell this offseason. Glad he does not seem to care what the fans think on this one -- I hope the people paying his checks view him as tied to KDs hip - Lance Carl, you too bud. Gonzalez leaving CB coach taking off and taking his kid with him (sorry hot start) Hire a washed-up OC who has demonstrated the ability to reduce offensive performance compared to his predecessors OL coach? Eye test says AZ oline was crap, but I guess we will see Does this leave two openings (currently)? WR and someone on defense? They would need to swing BIG at those, either to replace Meat with a big recruiter in the back, or (please god) finding a dedicated DL coach. A couple of no-name, no recruiting hires would be par for the course and honestly the lowest-momentum hires I could imagine.
1st note of business, fuck those fires. That shit is brutal. Ts and Ps. 2nd. Gotta hand it to them, Vic is a home run hire. Hope that is enough to keep Lang around 1 more year. He should be our best recruiter at a position we haven't recruited well at in 20+ years. Assuming Coach Smith goes to DBs where it looks like he did a solid job while at Arkansas. Wilson to ILBs would make the most sense to me and we've still got Jeff Smart around to help out. Hit another solid piece at WR coach and I'll be less pugnacious. This is assuming we're just letting Langford's contract expire end of year and letting him go.
Liked Michalowski well enough... If they are going to dump him, they better dump the QB coach as well and get another fucking recruiter on offense.
Gun to my head and I have to choose So'oto or Mike, I'm going Vic. Nothing wrong with Mike, I just think he'll be able to close on the upper levels better than than Mike did. Also looking forward to February when Langsdorf’s contract expires and he goes away. Sanford can ruin the QBs and we can hire a solid recruiter at WRs.
We taking another bum off your hands? #Minnesota Golden Gophers Clay Patterson, who I assume would coach WRs.
No, we actually like Patterson. I think he is looking for a clearer path to get to an OC role, which he would have been behind two coaches at Minnesota.
He has an intriguing background. Recruiting doesn't seem awful. Was just hoping for something a little more known I guess.
https://247sports.com/Coach/Clay-Patterson-4033/AllTimeRecruits/ Better than what we usually pay to be bad at their jobs, I suppose
I wouldn't say he was our best recruiter but he was one of our better ones, most of his ties are in Oklahoma/Texas and he pulled some decent recruits from there.
Assuming he gets the passing game coordinator title if he's really trying to climb the ladder. This is something, His offense broke the all-time yards per game record at any level of football with 656.1 yards per game during the 2015 season
Our fanbase generally likes him. Had crazy stats as an OC at the Juco level, and then was our lead recruiter in Oklahoma and Texas. We just hired back our OC from 2019 who didn't utilize the TEs much, and we basically set up our WR coach to be the future OC. The combo of not using the TEs much and no clear path to being the OC anytime soon has him on the move. He'd be a good hire for Colorado imo
Overall I'd say the coaching staff was improved. Now we just need to flip half a roster out of the portal.
I wonder if RG/LC have thought for a second, “maybe if we didn’t make such a clown show of a hire, all these guys wouldn’t be transferring?” Who am I kidding? Zero point zero shot this has happened.
