Hard to really know after one year on him as a coach or recruiter. I don't think he knew what he signed up for coaching DB's under Kirby. Our secondary is/was patchwork because of transfers. I also don't really know how much he had to do with the DB class we just signed. I would trade him for TRob rn though just being honest.
With the exception of 2019, the OSU defensive back seven has been the Achilles Heel of the team since 2017. We hired Coombs largely based on his past success at OSU as a recruiter, but that was a disaster in 2020 and 2021. Remains to be seen if he stays on staff, but he was demoted from DC to CB coach after the Oregon game in 2021. Safeties coach Matt Barnes was promoted to DC but now will leave for Memphis since we hired Knowles as DC.
