right. but what other WR's were out there? Kenny Golladay was a complete bust who is on the hook for like 4 more years.
Another Fuller side note. Remember earlier this year before he got hurt he took a personal leave? There was speculation that he hated it here and was seriously considering retiring. I'm wondering if that whole situation was a Flores thing too.
This move puts to bed any possibility that Deshaun was ever/still is in play. It's also quite obvious that keeping Grier means 2022 is make or break for Tua. Grier's fate is 100% tied to Tua so be prepared for them to hilariously overspend on OL/skill guys in FA and have that be their primary focus on the draft as well.
I mean it's just a thing that felt like it was a miss on an offense that needed to improve. Not that its THAT REASON or anything.
I mean we absolutely crushed the 2021 draft, and absolutely whiffed on the 2020 draft who is to blame on that?
Yeah we definitely are now finding out that Flores and Grier didn’t have a good relationship, and neither did Flores and Tua and if you think back all that Watson crap was fueled by Flores refusing to shut it down and refusal to give anything over than a belichick answer on tua Maybe Flo was to blame for a lot of the stuff we blamed Grier for idk
So i'd imagine Doug Pederson, Leftwich and McDaniels will be on the short list? Jim Caldwell will probably be in the mix too given he was on staff two years ago.
Considering the way Herbert looked at Oregon they did something right with him. That's all I'm saying, he's a completely fucking different player
Ok but then Grier and/or Ross could have done this if the two of them were not in any way entertaining Watson. If Flores was the biggest proponent for Watson then good riddance BUT you can't put that entire shitshow on Flores from a communications point of view.
sure but they aren’t out there doing weekly press conferences and avoiding the elephant in the room and only making the situation worse do I think they should have stepped in sure absolutely but today’s reports seem to indicate Flores was a big factor in the Watson pursuit and one less of those power players in the building is a positive for me
I'm agreeing with the point about removing Flores if he was the biggest advocate I'm just saying to put all the communications on Flores is unfair...not to Flores but just to the organization.
Much prefer the guy with a proven track record of success over the hot shot OCs. Basically I'm not sold at all that being good at calling plays and running one side of the ball has much relevance to the job of HC. It's an entirely different skill set.
How does this kind of stuff only come out after people are fired. guess reporters don’t want to piss off their sources
It's been there. Last off-season it was rumored that our inability to hire an experienced OL coach and an outside OC was in part because people didn't want to work for Flores. His first OC, O'Shea, was let go after seemingly doing a decent enough job. Difference of opinion was cited. Say what you will about Chan Gailey and I hated the hire from the start, but at least he was an actual NFL OC. This year we had two OCs promoted from within that had never done the job before. Our OL coach was basically a newbie and we have a young OL in need of a veteran coach there. His offensive staff has always been a disaster.
Man if you're not going to shoot for the moon you may as well of not have fired Flores. I don't want some recycled coach
Not sold on Leftwich at all Working with the most talent rich offense in the NFL, and it can be argued that a good amount of the play calls are coming from Brady
Lots of good coaches in this league are recycled. Belichick, Carrol, Reid come to mind immediately. Pederson had a good run in Philly and won a SB. I'll take a shot on that resume even if it's not bullet proof.
TBH I think way too much is made about who is or isn't calling plays when we are talking about HC hires. Good staff decisions, inter-personal skills, media skills and leadership skills are what's relevant. Tomlin spent one year of his coaching career as a DC and neither Harbaugh has ever been a OC or DC
