She's actually ok. Primary campaigns are awful, so she's having to pander so she doesn't get annihilated. When user Z becomes ruler, party political primaries will be abolished. Jungle primaries everywhere.
She'll be a Shelbyite once in the place if she can get there. She's intelligent, friendly, and just a decent person.
I’d like to believe that, but the dramatic shift to the right I just don’t see it. She’d certainly be more centrist than a Brooks but still vote/speak further right than Shelby whether she believes it or not
She'll embarrass us less than Maga Mo, but she's still been terribly disappointing since announcing her campaign. It's utterly shameless.
Disgusting nature of party politics unfortunately. Have to pander to idiots to have any chance at winning.
Yep Was actually good for Alabama standards until she decided to run Also, shout-out to blatant racist, Mike Durant, who is also running for senator in Alabama. His commercials have been awesome in a bad way. Refers to the virus as the China Virus and also says no more scare tactics... apparently doesn't see the irony in that. Also referenced scripture to basically claim he's the chosen one.
Britt's whole "Jesus was with us" tornado story is repulsive, and more than just trying to win a primary.
I don’t share a lot of her politics, but we were in law school together and just always seemed like a good person. And compared to Mo, well he’s a person I guess.
i'm sure at some point in time this was true but it just reeks of the "kavanaugh carpooled my kids to school, he's a good man" stories. it just doesn't have any relevance for me to the position she's seeking and how she's going about it. she has to be shameless and debase herself in order to win over the trumpers in alabama? okay, then that's how it is, but i don't think you get to argue she's also a good person if she chooses to go down that path. she could always just, ya know, not seek statewide office!
And I look at it as, personal experience was she was alright. Her tenure at the BCA was alright. She’s never acted anything other than alright until this campaign. Maybe I’m wrong and somethings changed, but I just know this is how primary season works. And especially when your opponent is Trump endorsed in Alabama.
not sure i'd cite her time with a group as psychotically anti-worker as the BCA to show that she's a good person
She will vote in the Senate the exact same way that Mo will. There is no difference between the two. She might the be more personable of the two, but she is just as ghastly as him politically.
The one advantage, and it's a very small one, is that she won't embarrass us as badly nationally. But, I guess Tubs is going to do that anyway, so what the hell?
It’s funny to me that Doug Jones, who is probably one of the most centric Dems out there, was successfully vilified as a baby killing communist. What a state to live in
I have tried getting on board with Britt because yes, she is certainly less embarrassing than Brooks. But the other day I listened to one of her radio ads and it made me want to drive into the other lane of traffic.
She also would almost certainly vote like Shelby in the electoral college issue. I know that's a low, low bar, but it's important these days.
any alabama politician that doesn't support medicaid expansion, an extremely straightforward choice that would immediately help the lives of countless people, is not a "great person" no matter how nice they are to you personally or whatever
I think that "good people" can be and often are very wrong in ways that hurt other people. But, I also think that anyone who runs for the United States Senate has to have some baseline level of megalomania to feel deserving of the position in the first place.
Anyone that willingly associates with the transparently anti-democratic Republican Party cannot be considered a “good person.” Anyone that supports outlawing appropriate female reproductive give health care is not a “good person.” Anyone that demonizes immigrants as dangerous is not a “good person.” Anyone that works to suppress African American votes is not a “good person.” There are some very low bars required to meet the standard of being a good member of a society. Republican politicians do not meet that incredibly low bar. They oppose the idea of living in a society and giving a single shit about their neighbors. Their behavior is not tolerated in any kind of functioning society. Only in a failed democracy like the United States circa 2020s could they thrive like this.
I thought I wanted to be a politician when I was in college and now I laugh at all the skeletons that would surface if that ever happened I’ll just stay anonymous
I didn’t think it was a defense as much as a potentially half hearted explanation generally dismissive of every national politician. I decided to be explicit. The current Republican Party platform is “be an asshole.”
Yeah, I agree with that. You misread my post. I thought the quotes around "good person" would make it clear that I didn't mean that they were actually in any way good people.
The Britt thing is like the biggest :bothsideshavevalidpointsmeme: thing ever. Hopefully she'll have some fortitude once she gets in.
i would love to be a fly on the wall for the planning of that ad Let’s run an ad about a totally not made up story about pulling over on the side of the road after a tornado because our daughter saw a ghost
Boy was I wrong about Britt. She’s smart, and I thought genuinely a good person, but she’s run a despicable campaign to try and win office. I knew she couldn’t be explicitly anti-Trump and win in an Alabama primary, but she’s swung so far the other direction, she should be ashamed.
Worse. She’s running a senate campaign based on Trumpism. Not just holding her nose and voting. She has leaned into awful policies for political gain.
Has anyone not? Every republican commercial I've seen is like a competition of who can suck his dick harder
Right I was saying this isn’t someone just holding their nose and voting. She’s actively campaigning.
