Is that frost one really magsafe compatible? It's translucent but I don't see a magnet ring in it... Found a review for it. "Not super protective" as a negative. Kind of seems to defeat the purpose of a case lol
They just came with some random screen protectors on Amazon. I would just buy cheap. Mine cracked. Maybe it saved my camera but who knows.
Ipad pros are outrageous. Was looking at the the cheapest 12 inch one with magic keyboard and pencil is 1800 bucks. I wish I could have streaming apps on actual laptops. MacBook pro or air for 500 cheaper would be a no brainer.
You can download shows and movies on all the apps now. I go a few places with zero connection, like to have a bunch of shows and movies loaded up.
I can download Netflix local on my windows laptop or get the base iPad. Don’t need a Pro for streaming apps
Yea it's definitely overkill but I want the massive second screen. Slippery slope with these things.. Have to go with at least an air to get the thin bezel/full screen. It's 600 for 64gb and and 700 for decent storage. The pros start right around there.
I see the 12 pros for 1200 on BB, 1400 for largest storage. Not sure if you a big fan of the pencil but I agree a pencil and a keyboard is not worth 400/600, that is steep. Also the Apple credit card is stupid convenient to purchase their gear. It’s also stupid easy for online purchases as well so heed the warning if you’re dangerous with that sort of thing.
That’d be nice. Fiancée is going that route for her next, needing stronger specs as she uses Adobe programs/3D modeling, and keeping the old 2017 MacBook for portability. She also has an insane idea to buy one of the crt monitor sized purple transparent iMacs and somehow putting a modern monitor in it. I think she’s crazy and has no electrical background but whatever floats her boat.
A few yeast ago, I wanted to get one of those vanity mirrors w a tv behind the mirror for my GFs make up table. Figured it would be a really nice gift Those things were like $1200. A little more than I wanted to spend at that point in the relationship. Then I saw some youtubes on how to make one. The materials were still $600 and that was too much to just throw away if I couldnt get it to work so I bailed on the idea. this is a really pointless /csb but your fiance's idea reminded me of that. Good luck!
Any have the iPhone 13 Pro? I’m using an iPhone XS now and it’s fine other than battery life. Verizon is offering $440 for my current phone towards the 13 Pro but I have to finance it. Is the 13 Pro worth it or should I wait until later this year?
Got the iPad Pro 12.9 for my birthday. Anyone have a recommendation for a case. I want something that I can hold like a “book” and that has a backlit keyboard. TIA
I've been shopping these all week and reading and watching a bunch of stuff.. It's expensive as shit but the magic keyboard is supposed to be unbelievable.
It’s great but the one complaint is that it doesn’t fold up like a book. You’re either using it with the keyboard like a laptop of you have to take it off the case.
Yes super easy it’s just magnet connected. I go between that and a cheap fold up case when I take it to job sites. It was just a little surprise it didn’t allow for complete fold open.
I'm trying really hard to justify the whole set up just for fucking around and watching movies. Haven't gotten there yet. I have the original 9.7 inch pro. Battery is starting to go. I'm looking at everything from mini, air and both pros.
I went full out last year 12.9 Pro, magic keyboard, pencil and AirPod Pros, but I use it for work more than personal stuff so it’s been well worth it.
First time I saw someone marking up drawings with an iPad Pro + pencil I was like god damn that's genius.
Thats lovely and then using Notes app to do any field sketches and notes so I don’t have to scan paper sketches has been such an improvement for me.
Covered this in wfh thread but regardless might help someone here. If you can tie in your work account, any external conference has an app you can use. Frees up pc/mac which keeps that free to do work. Been doing that for years. Also my friend is a contractor and has been singing the praises of the pencil for years. He loves that thing.
My issue w the iPad is adding a keyboard takes away what is convenient about having a tablet. I pretty much use it for either a second screen for sports viewing or sometimes, work, just basic web surfing, or as a kindle in a pinch when I dont have my actual kindle. Typing on it sucks, but adding a keyboard to it takes away it's sleekness and mobility of a tablet. Rather just use a laptop. Im just in the tweener use case for an iPad. Im not a graphic designer so the pen does nothing for me ect
I occasionally get the itch for a new iPad but can never justify it for the price and my actual uses for it. I have an 8 year old Mini 2 that is pretty much unusable at this point but I had been using it to watch soccer in the afternoon when I started working from home on the kitchen island last year. Now I have an office and a TV so that’s no longer necessary.
It’s been said many times and different ways. It’s all on your use/need. I switched from a MacBook to iPad Pro and it does everything I need for personal and work. I do use the pencil a lot for signing docs, marking up pdfs, and editing pics/diagrams. Only thing that ever really falls short is some files don’t convert correctly (mainly spreadsheets) even though is use excel. A few items always get lost in translation. Mostly formulas or formatting. Outside of that, the Pro is perfect for me. I have the keyboard and pencil too. Agree that the keyboard is bulky but it is easy to type on and if I know I’m not going to use it then I’ll put the iPad in a cheap case and just use it as a tablet. You can justify it if you use it a lot.
I just find myself watching shit on my phone a ton because my wife and 2 year old monopolize my tv. Obviously that probably doesn't justify spending 1000 on a pro but with the air starting at 6 it gets pretty blurry
if you use yours for field work, notes, etc, I’d highly suggest checking out the app notability. I use it frequently and it’s fantastic. You can import drawings, etc which makes it super convenient.
What do y’all use to take notes? Work provides an iPad Pro + keyboard + pencil, but when it comes to taking notes, I haven’t found a way to take notes on an iPad that is quicker than paper. I work in client services (attorney) so quickly taking notes on what is said on calls, in meetings, etc. is quite important, but IME taking notes on an iPad makes “my handwriting” too big to be efficient for what I need. Basically, the iPad isn’t as fine as pen/paper, if that makes sense
I’m not on the highly compliance or reliance side of note taking. That said when I don’t have access to my pc it’s what I use. Wife is heavy compliance side of things and absolutely loves it. I do enjoy it as well, as I’m a chicken scratch person. The nice thing for me is I can write it in there, throw the info in the corresponding folder and eliminate finding a note that’s “dogleg 1436 finance 34B”. I write to myself in code like an asshole, which isn’t bad, but when I waste 25 minutes trying to decipher it saves some time. So generally speaking it’s kept me way more organized, despite the fact that I don’t “need” it, I’ve grown to love the tool.
I was lying in bed with my laptop on my stomach and my phone on my chest. I sat up to reach for something and my phone slid down my chest, down my keyboard, and onto my laptop screen. Are you fucking kidding me
man what an idiot. the 13 Pro from an 8 is just a crazy upgrade experience. I also have a 7 as my work phone and switching between the two is just weird now. The 7 feels like a toy. The 13 has renewed my interest in playing games on my phone. That said, Apple Arcade (which I got 12 months free with Verizon) is a huge disappointment to me. There are fun games but I guess I expected more given the subscription fee. Pinball on a 13 is great fun.
Shit that’s some bad luck. I have a 2010 MBP that has fallen from my bed to the hardwood floor a dozen times and it’s still kicking.
I must have terrible luck then because about 3 years ago mine fell on its side from about 1’ high on a couch onto hardwood floor and the screen broke. This is a 2015 retina pro so I’m not sure what I’m going to do about it yet.
Two quick things: 1. Is there a quick way to basically transfer everything from an old MBP to a new one? Obviously I know a lot of the shit is in the Cloud, but I'm talking like files and pics I have saved to the laptop and whatnot. I know there's that super simple way to do it when getting a new iPhone. Wasn't sure if there's something similar for laptops. 2. What is a good wireless mouse to use that doesn't cost $500? I have some Logitech one for my current laptop but it's USB.
I assume this exact contraption? It appears they make a non-mac and mac version. I usually spent like $20 on a mouse ha.
Yes, hence why I said the for Mac one. Now you may be asking yourself "is a mouse really worth $100?" That answer is yes.
