3 Heineken 0.0s and a monster energy. Hung out with my usual Friday night drinking buddy. He got ripped and I just pissed a lot It will be nice not waking up hungover tomorrow
Daycare is closed all next week due to covid. I’ll be working from home with a 2 year old and a 5 month old. If I can make it through the week with no alcohol it will be a miracle
I don’t (mine was part health and part addiction, which obviously tie together). My thought was if I’m gonna stop drinking I’m not going to consume calories that I would have with alcohol and lose weight instead (weigh about 40 LBs less than I did before I stopped). I have gotten hop water a few times, which has been IPA like and doesn’t have calories or carbs and that’s pretty good. Mostly it’s Coke zero.
Decided to try it on a whim. Never been a big boozer, but pretty consistent with beer and bourbon. Just want to see how far I can go. Hope everyone is doing well.
The lagunitas hoppy refresher is awesome. Basically a hop flavored La Croix. I’ll prob drink these even after January
Decided on a whim to give it a go starting Jan 3rd. Beer is fucking expensive here and I've been having a few a night since I moved last year. Decided to set aside the weekly $30+ for something fun. Been slamming lecroix but it's been way easier than I expected. Crazy waking up at 8am without a headache on a Saturday.
Didn’t plan on not drinking but working at a bar I tend to drink more than I should after work etc. haven’t had anything since I tested positive for Covid and I honestly don’t really miss it. I’m sure I’ll have a drink at some point soon but I would come home and immediately slam something or take a shot. I’ve just been drinking water, hot tea and just chilling.
It's not for me and have never had one. I always said drinking near beer would just piss me off more than anything. That or it would be too much like the real thing. I had to teach myself life can happen without a beer in my hand. Grilling, tailgating, camping, concerts, etc. I also had to teach myself that alcohol is the legit devil to me. It's helped me stay away from it. I cant fantasize about drinking, or I might go out and get drunk again. It may not be then, but the thoughts may plant a seed for the future. Was always told that there will be a voice in my head representing alcoholism. And he is always getting stronger, doing pushups out in the parking lot just waiting for me to slip.
everyone knows that last one doesn’t count. It’s like when you were in a different area or zip code than your bff it didn’t count and wasn’t really cheating.
Gf and I decided we're gonna do dry February starting the day after the Super Bowl. I'm aiming to make it until the first weekend of March Madness. Needless to say, sports are my biggest enabler as far as drinking goes. My ultimate aim is to completely cut out weeknight drinking save for very special circumstances.
My first thought as I'm reading the first sentence was, "Can we really call it dry February if the day after the Super Bowl is the halfway point of the month?" Carry on and more power to you. Spoiler Good luck to you two if you don't drink on Valentine's Day.
Today commences the 2nd weekend of Dry January. Weekends are by far the worst. May the force be with yall
Started 1/3 and still going. A steady rotation of Water, coffee, and some Gatorade Zero's thrown in when I'm feeling saucy.
Social events are hard b/c it's essentially.... I got to the point a few years ago where I was just slamming waters b/c I need something in my hand. I don't ever feel like drinking effects much besides probably my weight. 4-6 Hazy DDH DIPAs is like 1200-2500 calories, then I usually make it worse by getting candy when I go to the gas station. I wish I was in a legal state or at a company that doesn't drug test, but certain clients of mine do and it's frustrating. I could really go without alcohol, especially at home on the weekends, if I could take a few gummies.
I think I'm going to roll through February as well. Maybe slightly carve out a valentines day dinner.
I'm also participating. 2nd or 3rd year doing it. I just enjoy the reset of my habits, particularly how easy it is to grab a post-work beverage at the end of a day working from home. That being said, I've got a newborn and twin two year olds, so not the best timing. Wife isn't participating this year because she just gave it up for 40 weeks.
Still going strong. Last beverage was on 12/31. dry January is always tough for me as my bday is late January. Planning on a bday weekend next weekend. Going to Knoxville for a basketball game and watch playoff football all weekend. I plan on drinking on the trip and then going back to sobriety when returning. Not sure that jives with the rest of the crew in here but I’m going to enjoy myself
Didn't even know this thread existed. I usually hang out in the MMA and wrestling threads. Same story as most, too many bourbons over the weekend bled into weekday bourbons. Not a good look. Not to mention the extra weight that comes with it. Turning 40 this year so the hangovers are a given, tired of that shit. I'm still going strong, although this weekend will be a good test. Putting shrimp skewers on the grill tonight, have a wedding tomorrow night. A couple of speed bumps for sure. The best thing for me is just keeping the shit out of the house. If it's here, I'll drink it. Wife was the one who recommended we do Dry January. She's had two outings with girls from work this month, had drinks both times. Before we even started she said this wedding will be a mulligan. My goal is to keep it going though.
Covid has really made dry january worse. Stuck inside, cold as shit outside, can’t really do as much inside with large groups because of covid, and cant drink.
Did this a couple of times with an ex-gf and it was pretty easy. Doing it this year and it’s fucking hard as hell. I’ve realized I don’t really give a shit about alcohol, I just need it to spit game at girls and just talk to people in general in social settings if I don’t know them that well. May try to quit alcohol for a while until and I can figure that shit out.
19 days in and no slowing down. Down 4 lbs. I have had a few golf rounds that I thought it was going to be an issue but no big deal. A couple of my friends have joined in solidarity. Going to finish the month no problem and plan on continuing for a couple of more weeks after.
Going strong since 1/1; wife's definitely called out some positive changes (less snoring, less irritable, skin looking better, skinnier), but truthfully the biggest thing I've noticed happened today - I actually started pondering if I could keep this up for another month. Before, I was just counting down the days & letting friends know I was just doing this for the month. But now I'm wondering if I'm starting to hit a point where I don't "miss alcohol" or whether the "cravings" are starting to subside. What really sucked though was Saturday - it was cold and rainy, there was football on, and Monday was a holiday so it hit all the "drink all day" criteria. I did meet some friends for wings and a game, but ultimately went back home for dinner and was in bed by 9 lol.
I can totally understand why someone with limited female experience such as yourself would assume this, but many women, such as your wife, prefer a below average size. A fabulous and thunderous one in particular can make them feel quite apprehensive.
Kinda surprised how easy it was. Started drinking more seltzer but haven't really missed the beer at all.
I slipped watching the cowboys Sunday. Going to be diligent the rest of the way. 1 drinking night out of 31 is still better than the previous 36 months
