Same watch just under different lighting? that’s a very universal face and can’t really go wrong with a lot, except for the one that’s currently on it
Yeah, same watch. It looks white in low light and off-white/cream in brighter light. That's Hamilton's OEM milanese bracelet. I got it because it was $50 more than the leather option and people were raving about it in reviews. Its a very good milanese but I agree it doesn't have a place on that watch.
I like the 321 a lot too, but I can’t really justify paying more than double what I’d pay for this one. I’ve wanted one for awhile and feel like it has to be in my stainless steel collection (Sub, royal oak, speedmaster, and eventually a VC with dream goals of a nautilus). What’s the sapphire sandwich reference?
I remember thinking the bracelet was too thin for my liking when I tried the speed master on. That looks fantastic though.
The bracelet kind of sold me. I don’t love the bracelets on some of the older models. This one looks a lot like the Rolex jubilee and is super comfortable to wear.
Bracelet is incredible. That, plus the updated movement has me contemplating upgrading mine. Congrats!
Ya I agree. I think the AP is the best steel watch that exists, so no argument from me. But having 2 is fun and the speedmaster is great.
Update: just sold the Tag. Not sure what’s next, but I am motivated to sell a few more watches now that I’ve tried them out (Seiko SKX, Seiko Presage Fuyugeshiki, Flightmaster, and a Citizen EcoDrive.) If I sell the rest, I’m probably close enough to pick up something older and dressier. I’m thinking something similar to Fudd Bond ’s fake Omega or save a few more towards a Rolex 6694 or 1601.
Hs anyone used an ultra sonic cleaner before? Worth it over just dipping in water and scrubbing? I have an older Seiko that i'd like to start wearing again but the chrono buttons and the crown are stuck atm.
The lack of laco’s on people’s wrists saddens me. But I think I’ll spare everyone the applewatch wrist shot.
Wrist check - just trying to drive more activity in here (Alternatively, I might also have a homoerotic wrist fetish)… believe what you will Spoiler
It wears very well given its dimensions: 40mm diameter, 49 lug to lug, 14.3 thick. Normally, I wouldn't consider buying a watch with those dimensions because I only have a 7 inch wrist and I've found that 49 lug to lug is really pushing it, but the lugs angle down dramatically and really hug the wrist very well. Also a couple mm of thickness is simply due to the box dome crystal, so it really has a perceived height of about 12.5.
My go to watch is a Hamilton Khaki King auto with beige dial and dark brown leather band. I also have a Rolex from my year of birth but I haven’t worn it in years. It’s not exactly subtle and I prefer understated.
Are watch prices ever going to drop back down again? I went to Rolex pick up a new Submariner and there's a 3 year wait...
Rolex makes about 1 million watches per year. Past couple of years demand has far outstripped supply.
Not sure, I was debating on getting one a year or so ago and I could find them everywhere. Today I can't find them anywhere, hell I even went to the Rolex store on Rodeo Dr and their cases were almost empty.
It's been bad for 4-5 years & the last 2 has been the worst I've seen... feel like many people reallocated $$$ used for travel, into watches. Hopefully we'll see the demand drop as travel restrictions fade away
I had a Datejust 41mm Blue Roman numeral dial on my wrist in Nov 2020 in Tourneau on Bryant Park, the sales women was telling me how I should buy now because she wasn't sure when they would be back in stock. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago, a woman in a Jewelry store in Red Bank, NJ told me people from Dubai call and ask if they have any inventory and claim they will fly from Dubai to NJ to buy the watch. It has really gotten insane worldwide on the demand side.
damn that's nuts. It's crazy to think sometimes, that out of all the shortages....high end watches would be on that list. However here we are.....
I was talking about this topic with someone who ran a company that designed and made high-end fashion watches (Fendi, Gucci, etc.) and they told me the Rolex factory is essentially a conveyor belt of people, one next to the other. Once they opened back up after the initial factory shut down the barriers between workers and restrictions made it very difficult for Rolex to produce anywhere near the inventory they made pre-covid. Not sure on what it looks like now, this convo took place in Nov 2021.
Wife's watch was supposed to be here in November so it would be a Christmas gift - may not get it until the summer. Pretty comical.
I feel like we should just start a watch company at this point that can deliver within 6 months. Have to be a few disgruntled Patek and Rolex guys that would jump at the chance. lol
Basically every steel watch right now has insane wait times. A sub takes years, which is hilarious given it’s their basic entry watch. Friend bought engagement ring and wedding bands from a jeweler and has waited over a year for a sub. Pepsi, Batman, Daytona, etc. probably can’t get unless you’re buying multiple watches from the dealer. Secondary market for all of them has insane prices. A friend has been on a list for a Royal Oak for nearly 3 years. On the secondary market, those go for $45k+. A few years ago, you could buy in the store and get a 20% discount on $17k retail. Today I want to say retail is $22k+, and you won’t get any discount. Haven’t asked about Vacheron in awhile, but I’d guess those aren’t much better.
