Getting Alford back at ND would be kind of a counter to the Elston move (very experienced position coach, recruiting coordinator experience, knowledge of ND). And with such a young coaching staff at ND, maybe the level of impact he could make would be appealing (versus it made zero sense when BK was still here). I realize there is zero chance this happens.
Everyone in the world thinks it’s impossible to recruit at an elite level to ND. We may finally have a staff that can finally prove or disprove that notion once and for all.
Given the last two hires have followed the same pattern it makes you wonder if Freeman is playing 4-D chess. Interview the safe/boring candidate (Heacock/Hartline) to appease the older fans and administration, give the older candidates a soft sell to make sure they don’t take the ND “offer,” and then “settle” for the better coach with cover that they tried for the big name.
Driskell reporting Belk interviewed, but after Heacock turned the job down, Freeman opened up his list of candidates and is likely going to wait on some NFL guys before making a decision. Doesn’t mean Belk isn’t the guy and he may be the favorite, but it is far from done.
Found this on a Houston fan site: In Belk’s 4-2-5 scheme, a 3-tech defensive tackle and a nose guard are bookend by a strong side defensive end and a weakside defensive end or pass rush specialist termed the “Bandit.” For the purposes of this article, we will lay out the depth chart at these four positions. As all defensive lines should be built from the inside-out, we will start with the two interior line spots followed by the two defensive end positions.

We’re not gonna be out-recruited when it comes to time and energy, but man oh man is this gonna be a little bit of an experiment.
ow for sure, dont think anyone is thinking otherwise, still bummed we now lost the 2 coaches that were top of my "to keep" list outside of balis
Yeah, 750K wouldn't be enough for Alford. If they had enough laying around to get him, do it in a heartbeat. If not, RB is one position where we'd be OK rotating young up and comers through every couple years as they move up. This move is good for Lance. I hope he kills it and can't blame him. 40wwttamgib is right, it has nothing to do with the HC. To me, this hire is easier than what's going on on defense. The timing feels about right at that position and I think with the OL trending up and an OC who has produce a running game, this is an attractive job.
didn't associate HC title open up when Elston left? give him a million plus and assoc HC, run game coordinator and RB's coach
I don't think there's any official spot or limit for AHC. They can do anything they want with creative titles, as long as it fits the number of allowable on field positions.
i know you are kind of kidding but guys like him are usually a disaster in coaching. « Look tyree, all you need to do is run his ass over. It’s not complicated » but coach…
