We'll see. It's probably a better position for him than LB, and I think he'll recruit well, but we'll see.
I guess Georgia wanted him so I’ll roll with that. Now that we have hired our d line coach we can hire a coordinator, per the natural order of things.
Also Keely has reacted to this hire by tweeting emojis that should be interpreted as positive. So home run so far.
It's funny how people turn on coaches so fast. If ND hired Washington for that spot last year it would have been a huge coup. One year later and some people shit on it. I have no clue which one is correct. Just kind of funny how quick it happens.
Of course it would have been a huge coup to hire him as an assistant when a major program like Tennessee wanted him as a DC.
I mean we can all stop pretending Ryan Day knows what he is doing considering he elevated Kerry Coombs to defensive coordinator
Dudes being handed a top 5 DL in CFB- even if he sucks we won’t know it until like 2024. Good chance he leaves to be a cord by then anyways I’m initially against the hire because it feels lazy but time will tell
Right. And one year later he was fired by the coach who talked him out of taking that job. He went from one of the better young coaches in CFB to "he's not good" like that. This happens all the time in CFB. I find that funny at how random it is.
I'm fine with Washington, as long as DC is Belk, or Tressel, or someone else that I decide is really good for no real reason.
Ueyama reporting on Washington has me optimistic. Waiting to hear what DIIII says before I start guzzling kool aid.
So the dc will just be plugged in and won’t have any say in his staff? Seems perfectly fine and a great strategy
Washington was absolutely fucking worthless for us. LB play was horrible and development was nonexistent, would place him in one of the lower tiers within the staff in terms of recruiting, seemed a little lazy - his best 2 ‘cruits (Hicks & Powers) were in-state kids who would’ve signed regardless of position coach. The glimmer of hope is that his shit performance came as LB coach, and DL is his forte. I questioned whether the UM DL was strong because of him or Mattison, but am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Will be interesting to see what his trajectory is from here.
Who knows, he might come to SB and coach with his hair on fire, eager to reclaim some lost mojo. Again, he almost has to be at least a bit better now that he’s coaching DL again. It was just sad that it took moving a 3rd year RB to LB early in the season to get anything close to mediocre production out of someone in that unit. And re: Eichenberg, the light finally started to come on for him near the end of the year. Al is gone because of his failure to develop Teradja Mitchell, Dallas Gant, Kvaughn Pope and Cody Simon.
i am just messing with you a bit, I like that you are laying it out in here. I want as much info as I can get my hands on. Nobody knows how it will pan out but some input from fans is always welcomed.
Ohio State defense was awful. They put their LB in impossible situations and asked them to do too much. I don't blame all Washington because scheme was crappy. I have no idea on how he did but that was a major issue
We were paying freeman more than that and he’s now making less than Kelly was, I assume. We have the money.
Our defense as a whole was indeed awful, and scheme sucked. But in 3 years, there was no talent development at LB and the fact that we converted a RS Soph RB (with no college PT on D) to LB after the Oregon loss, and he was starting by mid season, was a massive indictment of Al. TLDR: our defense sucked balls and Al was one of the many reasons why. Belk looks like a very solid hire.
Al Washington overruled everyone else on the staff and decided to put Tuf Borland one on one vs. Devonta Smith
why was a career DL coach hired to coach … checks notes … linebackers at … checks notes … Ohio fuckin state?
I don’t even know what Is a joke anymore, everything is so stupid that it could either be comedy or facts and it’s still funny,
