I am not a huge collector, but my friend is. Check out this ridiculous stash I had access to last weekend. Excuse the selfie. I was drunk.
Overheard at the store: “yeah, I’m lookin for those Wellers… I got me a green and uh rehyud, I’m tryna find uh blue and uh black.” “Collectors” deserve every ounce of the ire the receive.
I read the preview. You both liked it? I like him as a writer but the reviews weren't that strong and cited it should have just been a long form article vs a novel.
It’s a good read. It’s wright Thompson, it’s going to be good. It’s a short book so I wouldn’t worry too much about book vs long form format
Picked up a Batch 16 Stagg Jr. today. Have heard it tastes older than previous batches which has lead to some theories...
Anybody picked up one of the Trader Joe’s Barrel Proof bottles yet? I know it’s some sort of Buffalo Trace juice, but just curious if anyone had tried it.
Wouldn't be surprised. They aren't just going to dump those barrels unless they were terrible or something.
My father in law gave me a bottle of Joseph Magnus Bourbon. Never heard of it but it sounds good. What's the rundown on it, TMB?
I don't know what that is so I don't really know what that means. He's doesn't drink but he's a cool and also generous guy so I'm just trying to figure out what to expect from this when I try it this weekend. I'm a bourbon guy but don't know that I've ever seen it before. My tastes are admittedly fairly simple though.
as a free bottle very good, slightly expensive so not something I’d buy for my shelf but have had it a couple times and enjoyed it thoroughly
I really like Joseph Magnus blends. Agreed it’s not $100, but then again I like Dovetail so suck my dick.
The feedback is much appreciated and good to know. I imagine he went in somewhere and asked for "a nice bourbon as a gift for my son in law" and someone handed him this. Not sure how I have never seen it before because I do pay some attention to different bourbons. I'll be sure to give my review in here whenever I try it.
Did some hunting in NW Ohio today. Happy to have found these. One of the Weller SR is being traded for an EC Toasted Barrel (I’m adding some other samples). Excited to try the New Riff, it’s the first store pick I’ve had of theirs.
Having Patrick Swayze and his people over for dinner. Here’s the drink menu: MK1 - I love the Turkey profile, so I’m biased, but this is a must buy. Really great execution of toasted. Willett Blackened - idk how I feel about this one yet. I’m a sucker for Madeira finished rye, so I’m probably overrating it. W12 - it is what it is
I haven’t had W12 in years and got a bottle this week. Cracked it last night and meh so I’m on board. Super smooth wheaters just aren’t in my wheelhouse anymore.
I’m talking blinding them and pure taste difference. Obviously I’m taking the $250 secondary value bottle over the $100 secondary value bottle.
