I’ve long thought him to be a douche. Pay the bet. The way he and Jessica regularly steer the show toward talk about their teams is annoying. No one cares.
The whole show has been pretty bad the last few months, with exception to Greg Cote days. Dan is stuck in a loop of repeating the same topics and rambling with no end point. He asks a question, dismisses everyone who answers, then has no answer himself. They talk about sports media coverage way too much. Billy is the only good thing recently.
I don't listen to the local hour and still get a ton of insider Mike. Although won't admit he's wrong and talk down to the audience Mike is much worse to me.
Dan has been going in circles more often but I still like the show they're doing. . . other than whatever Mike has turned into.
fuck off ive been listening to the show for years and love most of the local talk. Love when Samson comes on, I like hearing about the heat, panthers, dolphins and even the U. Insider mike taking about his sources and trying to be Adam Schaffer was annoying af
I still listen almost every day but agree to some extent. The show the last few months has gotten really... dark? (for lack of a better word). Look at what has dropped today and it's yet another Big Suey episode about the "meritocracy in sports" with Howard Bryant and Kate Fagan - they've discussed this already how many times already?
I mean he was right about everything he said. So insider Mike was something that was extremely topical to locals/UM fans. It wasn’t a bit like the very misunderstood Corporate Mike. Sorry you didn’t like it, but the local hour isn’t for you. It’s for south Florida locals. You hated it, we loved it.
Lol and after I made that post I see the description for today’s big suey: The Meadowlarkers are back for a follow up on last week's conversation about meritocracy in sports, this time focusing on the media.
it kinda was a bit tho, that’s why they played up Tony getting the information before mike and had him role playing his text conversation
Panthers are the best team in hockey and the "local hour" barely talks about it fuck the local hour. I can only listen to the inner workings of the Canes so much and I have a really good friend who works there. And I dont even want to hear it from him at this point either. The insider stuff was important when actually breaking news about the head coach but I think we're good now. Less canes more panthers.
Actually im not really interested in that show really talking about it if im being totally honest. I dont think anyone really knows about hockey. I just want them to hype it.
Roy's knowledge is solid. He lacks technical knowledge of the game, but his opinions are pretty solid. Mike is just a hype man, but he's entertaining when doing it.
Roy is a good fan but I guess I dont think I'd learn much listening. Roy fan but just need more of someone bringing new info. Hockey Mike is best as surfer dude away from the mic.
Dan and Mike are both tough hangs. They left espn and have all this freedom, and Dan uses the opportunity to talk about the same topics over and over with no new insight or perspective. And Mike just comes off as a massive asshole and seems to talk more than Stu. Mike is hilarious and so good at his job which makes whatever bit he is doing lately even worse to listen to. Greg Cote was tremendous yesterday though.
you aren't wrong there. You don't listen to them talk hockey to get detailed opinions. You listen to them to laugh and get excited for the next game.
Which they should do more of! For the record I have this same exact stance on them when it comes to the dolphins.
Dan, Jessica, Mike and Roy were a little too much today on the local hour with David Samson especially when they were talking about Bruce Arians. Crazy because Im kind of defending Samson with that take.
I could be off-base but feel like when they were on ESPN they were pushed by the corporate overlords more towards entertaining the audience (where the "more sports!" jokes came from). Obviously at times they would take the opportunity to wane into some societal topics, race, etc but it wasn't the main crux of the show. Now that they're out on their own it almost seems like 80% of the show is discussing the serious /deep topics with the entertainment / light portion taking a backseat. I think most of their audience at this point is aware there are a lot of world issues but sometimes just want to tune in to have a good time, not hear four hours of doom and gloom.
Very true. And im on board with it but within reason. Their reactions made it seem like B.A. choked out his player.
I dont disagree with the Arians case but I do think its interesting to discuss the imbalance of what happens if the player just shoves Arians back (forget punching him...more just retaliating in any way). But thats not what happened really.
He definitely has ownership stake in meadowlark. They all likely do. This bit is just annoying. Waste of a Dan Patrick appearance.
dan and smetty have both alluded to equity vesting after certain portions of time. they all have a piece.
He does, but it is not as big as you would think. Apparently the "talent" got much bigger cuts than the "producers" and the entire shipping container is not considered "talent"
ok sure but .5% of a media company (I made that number up) is still something going to be worth a shit-ton.
oh for sure. I'm just saying the 50 million wasn't as big of a windfall for the shipping container as you'd initially think.
Well I'm sure it actually had to cover most of their salaries and expenses. It wasn't a bonus for anyone I wouldn't think. They needed that cash to start the business. That said, probably did better than whatever they got from ESPN for 6 months.
Right. All I am saying is that even though the Shipping container is doing better, they aren't in line to buy lambos.
