I think with this remaining a 6-3 majority for republicans that McConnell will not put up a fight. Might even vote to confirm
Excellent exactly what we need is another DC insider I hate all of these people nominate a smart minority woman who went to a state school
McConnell is very shrewd. I imagine they'll ask some hard questions, and then many will vote to confirm whomever as being qualified because it won't do anything to actually shake up the current lineup.
It’s a good opportunity for republicans to vote to nominate a black woman and then be able to use that going forward
Republicans including McConnell are going to throw a huge fit and refuse to confirm before the midterms. There’s no way they don’t act like children for once.
No they aren't. If for no other reason they can't. Again, McConnell has been awful for America, but he's an incredibly shrewd politician. There's no upside to him playing it that way.
Not talking about speed - I was just wondering how much work they could do ahead of him actually leaving
No they aren’t. They don’t want to be responsible for nuking the filibuster, which on some level I guess I understand McConnell set the precedent for a 50+1 Supreme Court vote. They won’t have an issue following a precede that was set like two years ago
Exactly. I can't stand the guy, but he's an excellent politician (results wise). There's just no real upside to it for him. Kind of like Pelosi never bringing a vote that she doesn't know she's going to win. These people know how to play the political game.
I think it’s likely that Biden and his inner circle have known about this for at least a week or two. And the administration has had plans for nominating justices. they can do it quickly if they desire to
These two are very happy with the status quo a liberal Supreme Court justice being replaced by another liberal Supreme Court justice doesn’t change anything. they’ll fall in line
I’m not saying they’ll kill it but they’ll extract something, especially Manchin. That’s just my guess. But point is more there in a hell of lot more position to do something than any member of the GOP.
mcconnell won't fight it. you'll have some ancillary members of the senate/house try to get TV time by being normal race baiting psychos that the gop churns out. mcconnell and roberts know legitimacy of the court has never been lower, a losing bitch fit by the gop does nothing to help that and could make it worse. mcconnells life was built on judicial supremacy to walk back civil rights progress, if the court gets delegitimized enough he fails.
Manchin has been an auto-yes on all Biden judges including literally the likely replacement last year. It's not going to be a thing.
Do a little critical thinking here and you’ll arrive at the conclusion that republicans won’t put up more than a token opposition
That's fine, and I don't disagree. I just laughed at the idea that McConnell gives a fuck about precedent.
Your post made it seem like they'd vote to confirm bc of precedent. I agree they won't fight it, but precedent has nothing to do with it.
If Sleepy Joe really wanted to bring the dem party together he’d appoint one of the following: Robert Mueller Krassenstein twins Liz Cheney Jeff Tiedrich
