Thank you for this. I appreciate your honesty and respect your opinion, and I agree with most of what you said.
no one has ever complained about me not stating my case. I do wish you’d do the same because it feels like you’re getting at something but not coming out with it.
I'm much more interested in hearing other peoples points of views and opinions of Rogan and his podcast. I believe I can learn more from hearing these opinions.
This, but even if it were 90 minutes, I wouldn’t. We’ve watched him get actual facts from certified people that don’t match his beliefs and he tries to find a way to dismiss it. What would be the point in listening to him wax on about shit he knows absolutely nothing about it has stupid opinions on, even if the person across is an expert? Why waste my time? If I want to listen to dumbasses speaking about stuff they know nothing about I’ll watch YouTube. Rogan adds nothing I want to listen to. At all.
I prefer facts from people that know what the fuck they’re talking about as opposed to incorrect opinions, but that’s me.
He's a dumb person's smart person and that's a dangerous combination especially in our modern interconnected world and how big his platform is. He also identifies as a right winger so caters to that view which is very bad as things get stratified on educational lines. Our culture prizes arrogant ignorance. He's a good example.
I mean he used to also be a dumb guy but in the mid 2010s he started having the worst pieces of right wing shit on and complaining about sjws and cancel culture incessantly and sort of fell into the intellectual dark web because he booked all those fucks and now he’s the result of that. He also always had quacks mixed in with legit guests but seems like he’s less interested in calling out quacks than he used to be because politics or whatever
Seemed like he at least was open to things left of center at one time like having Bernie on but then took a hard right turn I think around cancel culture, the same thing that seems to explode every comedian's brain.
His reach has also completely outsized his ability to handle his shit. He still thinks he’s doing a niche deal and is clearly cavalier about his guests because he doesn’t realize he should have more responsibility in platforming these pieces of garbage
My favorite maneuver is, after doing a bunch of "hmmm curious, just asking questions!" BS, then selecting the one response that sorta plays ball with them, and gratifying it so that it seems like "aha, yes, the sort of respectful, elevated discourse I was hoping for all along thanks so much for your thoughts!" God young, white conservatives are gross
Just to clarify terminology, the democrats in congress and the White House are (mostly) conservatives. People that embrace Rogan’s podcast at this point and defend his vaccine “skepticism” are the same reactionaries that thought Trump “tells it like it is.”
Yeah but a lot of the holdovers who used to love his show, like it less now "because it gets all political" but still listen probably abstained or voted Biden in 2024 though, like you said, are conservative. I wanted a catch-all, because I'm pretty sure the residual JRE fans itt can't wait to tell you how they voted for Biden
The part I can't stand is that they think that at least entertaining vaccine skepticism makes them MORE moderate
So it sounds like you see both dumb and smart people come into your practice who spew rogan propaganda and misinformation. Do you confront them about their terrible takes like you do on here, or do you just roll your eyes and move on with your job responsibilities?
I've always thought Rogan was an idiot, and decided he was dangerous when he started platforming alt-right assholes on his show and having "free thinking libertarians" parrot what they heard on his show from those guests back to me. At this point his covid-19 nonsense is just him going further past the point of no return, and it should be the last straw for any of his listeners with brain cells left.
I talk to people all across the country every day. Many know I'm in Florida and will comment "Oh I love your governor." Do I think they are a fucking moron? Absolutely. Do I say that to them? No bc I'm at work and they are my clients.
That is exactly what I do. I have clients who are super far left and clients who are super far right. When they start spouting off their political views, I just nod my head and smile. In sales it is important to not voice your political opinion, be interested instead of opinionated.
Because their opinion based on what they heard from JRE could affect their health. If dr. pnk thinks they have a wrong opinion about something, potentially showing them other facts or info could help save their lives. In my line of work, their opinion about what joe rogan thinks does not direct affect how we do business.
As a Dr., I would assume he gives them medical facts. I wouldn't consider that "confronting them for their terrible takes like you do on here."
I, pNk$Kt CrYn@$tY of Husk City, bannerman of Ratt, wake up each day and live every second of my life according to the moral principles of the tmb pubes and tattoos thread.
Last time I'm biting, for possibly real this time. I ask questions about what underlies their vaccine hesitency, ask if they have any questions for me, then present good information and my recommendation. Depending on a number of factors including how much resistence and earnestness I perceive on their part, and how much time I have, I might dissect some specific misbeliefs and their sources. This is not specific to JRE, but he comes up more often than any other named source.
With all sincerity, I respect this response and appreciate it. I was genuinely curious as a Dr how you handle patients who are anti-vax.
A few weeks back I saw a clip where a guest said something like, “crazy times, look at you joe, you’re a vaccine expert now.” And instead of his usual “don’t listen to me I’m an idiot” line, his response was, “yeah but I didn’t want to be, I had to.” A dude who didn’t finish community college is declaring himself a medical expert because he “did his own research.” If I were pnkskrt and the doctor contingent id tell my patients to go book an appointment at Rogan’s supplement ranch if they are so confident in his research.
