To comment on this, my roommate loves the game and got me into it. But if not for him, I would have quit a dozen different times. I don't know anything about the back story and have had to have him teach me almost all the mechanics. Even with him basically guiding me through things, I still don't understand most of it. Hell, I just learned what triumphs were 2 nights ago and I've been playing for months. I'm enjoying the game fine but I can't envision them getting any new players based on how the game is currently set-up.
So in classic Bungie fashion they are loading brand new players at power level 1100 into Dares of Eternity which is 1150. There was some stuff going around reddit, twitter, and youtube about it. So after seeing that I spent 3 hours lowering my level down to below 1100, loading in with New Lights and then switching back to my high level gear. We "rescued" 7 new light players last night and I'll probably do it some more tonight. (still need that damn halo void sword anyway.)
I did this a few times since Bungie said we'll get a special emblem for it. I've never seen so many high level players in Dares. All of us were conquerer or some raid title. Reminded of me of the old noob servers on Battlefield. Go in there and it was all colonel 100 guys.
This orb change sounds super dumb. They’re trying to say that further changes will make it make more sense, which is just bullshit. Few companies step on their own dick releasing info like Bungie does. Put all this out at once if this change is part of a bigger overhaul that will make more sense. Now everyone’s rightfully pissed because our already crowded armor mod setups just got even more complicated and we lost something that was “free”. It just perpetuates the meme. “Hey Bungie, we want to make orbs with our exotics who don’t have catalysts so we can use them without feeling like we’re handicapping ourselves. “. “We hear you loud and clear. Now no guns can make orbs unless you handicap your builds by giving up a valuable armor mod slot for it. Enjoy!”
It's the classic monkey paw from Bungie. We ask for exotics to be able to generate orbs and they give it to us in the most sadistic way they can. I really thought they were past doing dumb shit like this but clearly not. And if there is some other half to this that will have it make sense, why hold back on that? Just lunacy.
Is forerunner any good? I just got it and didn’t see any special exotic traits that make it stand out
The catalyst lets you consume magazine for a halo esque frag grenade. As far as just the gun goes it slaps in PVP. Especially throw on Surprise Attack if you are doing charged with light. Headshots go from 67 to 92.
But good lord the grind to get that catalyst. I assume they’ll eventually have increased rep weeks for Dares, but right now the number of completions is ridiculous. That was the last thing on my list for the season so I just powered through it this week but I may never set foot in there again until it’s updated.
The catalyst grind sucks. I mostly wanted the asteroid ship so I did it. That and there's nothing else to do right now.
well, holy shit. Sony bought Bungie. Think this will be good for the game overall. Better resources, better content. Just don't mess around with exclusives and PC stuff.
I think it will stay on all platforms. Might be used for leverage to keep CoD on PlayStation. Guess we know why Destiny was pulled from gamepass.
yeah, I'm just worried about timed exclusives returning. They're indicating they're not, but I'm not convinced.
They wouldn't remove it from PC for sure. Maybe Xbox but I just don't see it. Now if there's ever D3 then maybe.
yeah, say the right things now, but ultimately Sony paid $3.6 billion here. If they eventually push for it (especially as a response to Xbox doing something with COD), I'm not sure how much Bungie can actually push back.
Exclusivity on platforms sucks some major dick. I really hope things don’t go down that road. I also found it weird that Bungie left Xbox because they wanted to be independent and a decade (?) later they’re going to agree to Sony acquiring them? Must have had some major change of heart.
I think they see the writing on the wall. Everything is moving this way. There won't be many big independents left. CDPR is probably next to get scooped up.
the lack of updates to strikes, gambit, crucible maps, etc. I think are all indications that they didn't have enough manpower and resources to run the game independently. And they knew that. that's the good news coming out of this. We should see more consistent new content added to the game in the coming years. And maybe Destiny 3. Hopefully it's not another full wipe. But if that's what they need to update this engine that can't handle fucking orbs being created without onerous mod configurations, so be it. The Sony acquisition gives them the resources to make a Destiny 3.
I don't think we'll see Destiny 3 until after Final Shape but after that I think there's a solid chance.
I thought they said no Destiny 3 ever. It’ll always just be based off the current game. I’m sure we get new towers, planets etc and just a massive campaign that could be a Destiny 3 level game
They said no Destiny 3 while they were an independent studio who was struggling to stay on top of seasons, much less make a whole new version of the game. But Sony gives them the ability to expand their workforce and even pass some seasonal activity off to helping studios like they did with Vicarious Visions while owned by Activision. I think it will be after The Final Shape, as well. But it’s a perfect way for them to relaunch and reframe the series if they’re really ending the Light/Dark story line they’ve said.
We don’t know what’s happening in the final shape. Bungie May not completely. Lot of time between now and then for things to change.
Agree, especially considering the way they’ve tried so hard to move the game away from Outlaw/Rampage being the overly dominant pairing. I just can’t see them allowing everyone to create god rolls that easily. There’s gotta be some kind of catch.
Just do what they do with the rest of the game, don't explain shit and make it as confusing as humanly possible.
They had to keep it somewhat grindy. If it was as simple as get the gun to drop once then get x amount of kills with it unlock all perks that would be far too simple and would kill the chase.
I mostly liked what I saw but it’s all kinda white noise to me until I’m actually interacting with it hands on. I do like the idea of leveling up the weapon by using it. I missed that from D1. Just wish I weren’t also hand tied by champion mods only being on certain weapon types while I’m wanting to level the gun I actually like up.
Fingers crossed but there’s reason for optimism. Fair or not it’ll ultimately be judged by how good the weapon crafting system is and how grind-y it ends up being
I'm excited for all the new stuff. I'm still a little middle of the road on the aesthetic of the throne world for whatever reason, but I'm looking forward to all the weird secrets and stuff in there that will be fun to go through the first few times before becoming forgotten.
