Yeah Bomani was really good today as he usually is. He did humble me on the Flores case by saying it will be hard to prove in court as it currently stands (in his opinion). We shall see but he was good.
cases that are slam dunks rarely begin with a completely irrelevant reference to Black History Month.
Though he can be annoying at times the show is going to be drastically different without mike there on a daily basis. The guy is smart, funny, creative and the only one who challenges and reigns in Dan. I’m kind of starting to wonder if they will eventually scale back the main show and focus on other things. They are beefing up their live broadcasting capabilities though so maybe not.
I haven't listened in awhile but I can't imagine the show being better without Mike. The rest of the shipping container just annoys me.
I think the show has been really good lately. Both cotes, witty, billy, and stu have all been hilarious and I have only heard dan say “bigger, stronger, faster” 15 times in the past week. Pretty good.
Can someone explain how David Samson is friends with Dan and is given the platform he gets from the show? He got a bunch of heat from baseball people today for defending the owners and saying a lot of them lose money, and given the way the people of Miami were treated in the Marlins' new ballpark deal, it seems very odd that Dan is friends with that guy.
he's been coming on the show since before everyone in Miami hated him and Dan loves to do the thing with people in sports where he doesn't talk to them about the sport they are from for the most part and Samson was good at that because of his movie talk. Also Dan likes when guys aren't afraid to criticize their own sport and he thinks Samson does that in a way (although he's only really done it since he's been out of baseball).
I listened to the two they released as a tease last week. they were both good, with Smetty's song being really good (you know, compared to expectations). I'm gonna give the full thing a listen later today.
This. I was shocked at how good of a singer Smetty is. I’m very intrigued by the whole thing. It’s also only 30 min long.
It's never made sense to me Samson is a piece of shit and Dan should hate him, but for some reason keeps trotting him out
I think he just has a blind spot for friends. It's almost 100% Dan would hate Frank Martin if he were from anywhere but Miami
Following up. It’s legitimately good, and I’m shocked. The ones who can sing a little/stay on beat were highlighted and the others they did jokes with. JT Daly’s music is really good. 3-4 of the songs are bangers. Smetty is the MVP but Greg Cote, Chris Cote, Witty, Magill all had good roles. Stugotz song is just him and is perfect. Izzy’s cameo is absolutely awesome, too. Glad ESPN let him. there were swings and misses, I thought Dan’s contribution was particularly not useful, but overall thumbs up.
I’ll be honest, I wanted to hate it and laugh at them for taking this swing and missing. But I’m halfway through and I love it
son of a bitch im gonna have to listen to this thing aren't I? also...1st world problem...why is it uploaded as one episode and not as its own thing with the tracks split up?
Ok so the musical thing is way better than it has a right to be. The biggest thing working for it is it’s actually structured well. They thread through some of the key moments and close the whole thing wonderfully. the Izzy cameo is perfect and may have been the best part. this is unfair to Jessica but twitter reallllly had me convinced she was a secret theater major or something. She sounded nice and all but twitter had me expecting a legit show stealing performance. But overall definitely catchy.
Doh I didn’t realize the singers were listed out in the descriptions. agree about smetty, I thought she was going to be some amazing singer and she was good but there’s a lot of auto tune there
Not smetty hate. It’s lebatard fan twitter hate. I was seriously expecting some crazy solo breakout performance based on what I was seeing. That’s just false. She definitely has effects over her voice. Maybe she didn’t need it but the whole musical has heavy voice effects. It would actually have sounded weird if she didn’t since everyone else did
Lol Also love that set up with boxes just taped together. They referenced it multiple times on the show, but it’s even better to see if
I am not someone who thinks this “musical” has any good singing at all, but “The SU-per Bowl, The SU-per Bowl, The SU-per Bowl, The SU-per Bowl“ is one hell of an ear worm.
I think the biggest problem with the current iteration of the show is Dan is still treating this like radio. When you're doing a podcast you don't have the audience that's just listening for the first time or listening casually, almost everyone is a devoted fan who tunes in often / listens to every episode. An example of this is Dan's insistence on continually bringing up the conversation about the salaries and racial diversity of sports broadcasters and rehashing the same talking points over and over that we've been hearing for over a month now.
Met JuJu Gotti while walking out of the Hawks game tonight. Very cool and laid back dude, obviously. We talked about the potential Hawks/Heat matchup and how that could be a subject of friction for JuJu versus Dan and Mike.
