Coming down the home stretch. This is the last weekend in January then can get back to boozing. I would keep it going but its supposed to warm up down here and crawfish season will be in full swing in February and you are required to drink delicious cold beer while eating crawfish.

Not breaking the seal until 2-3-22. 34 days in a row without alcohol will be the longest stretch since I started drinking. Gonna say I started drinking regularly at age 16. I turned 45 earlier this month.

Last drink was Jan. 3. Calling it quits for a work function on Friday. Hasn’t been that hard. Nice to know I can put it down if I need to.

While I failed after 10 days, birthday was the 11th, I realized taking a week off wasn’t all that hard so I’m going to roll that into at least one week off every month. Typically the first week but just planning around Fourth of July. Rolls up to a quarter of the year almost off which feels good.

Well fellas, we did it. It was a pleasure standing in solidarity with you fine gentlemen. I'm going to keep it going until at least this weekend and possibly beyond. I won't get all that far because its mardi gras season and we have a bunch of parades etc coming up.

I tried to do this last year and failed miserably. This year, for whatever reason, it seemed like a much easier task and I kind of enjoyed it so I think I'll keep it going until the Super Bowl.

This has really been a year plus I’m the making for me. Went through several long stretches last year without drinking for the first time since I started. Formerly a 6-12 beer drinker daily. Failed once this Jan, but I wasn’t all-in on Dry January. It just intersected with my new found general sobriety and not enjoying drinking alone anymore.

Pros: I’m saving a lot of money and waking up fresh daily.

Cons: I discovered drinking was merely masking underlying problems, not the cause of anything on its own. I’m either depressed or in the middle of a major midlife crisis. Yay

Guess there’s a “next part” to this, which I have to say feels like a bait and switch. Oh well. Onward I go

Skip football this season. That will help.

Don't keep you phone near your bed. I had the habit of picking it up anytime I felt that I couldn't sleep. I'd waste an hour or two on it while "trying" to fall asleep. Anytime I wake up in the middle of the night, I just sit there. Usually I fall back asleep within 30 min. If it is after 4 am, I just get up and start the day. I'll sleep like a baby after a couple of days of doing this. Good luck.

Thanks, and I mean sure. Nothing has been flagged by my doctor or anything though. I didn't really start down this path due to any kind of trigger. I just kind of did it, which I guess is odd. One night turned into two, two turned into three, and I was like, "hmm, let's see where this goes."

I was a craft beer guy, so all sorts of things. Many years of trying anything and everything, bottle shares, brewery visits, and chasing rare stuff. It peaked while I was living in SF several years back. I quite literally checked every rare thing I ever wanted to try off my list. Afterward, it felt like I had beaten the game more or less, so I rolled back into session pales and IPAs for the most part -- Sierra Nevada Pale and Firestone Walker FlyJack were my go-to's for the past few years.

Congrats to the guys on trying to limit or cut out your drinking. Coming up on 4 years sober. I will say that drinking masks so many issues so putting it down requires us to made hard choices dive deep into who we are. The first 90 days of quiting are the hardest and after you hit 18 months it becomes natural. I started drinking at 16 and one day noticed I could go a day without it. I realized that all my thoughts revolves around alcohol and thinking and looking forward to a drink after work. I didn’t want my life and thoughts that way. Once you admit you have a problem there’s really no going back because of the guilt you have in failing to quit. It becomes a put it down for good or live in misery because it’s not natural to have the majority of thoughts revolve around booz. I truly hope none of y’all have addiction problems with alcohol but if you feel like you might, feel free to dm me and I’ll give you my cell phone number. I’m here for anyone that wants to quit.

Damn, good for you - I realized how close I was to 50 days, so I'm shooting for that now. And my birthday is just a few weeks from 50 days, so I've also said "use your birthday as the reward" and break it then.

I did just get back from a week at the beach w/ my wife - an entire week w/ no booze while watching everyone at the beach/pool drink nonstop every day was kind of hard. Thankfully, my wife doesn't really drink at all and I had a good book to distract myself.

My wife rarely drinks so it made giving up the sauce a lot easier (and she is pregnant and was trying to get pregnant through IVF so stopped completely).

A whole week at the beach with friends and fam would be hard as shit for me so big props.

Jan was tough but it’s already gotten more difficult. People seem to respect dry January, but now that I’ve extended to to 90 days, people are getting weird. “But like why?” “Dude just have a beer” “what’s 90 days even gonna do?” Shit like that is aggravating to me for some reason.
