SXSW szn in full effect. RSVPing for everything that aint nailed down rn This gonna be major....first in 3 years
Won’t be as big as 2019, but plenty big Samsung and Billboard will be doing three nights of shows at the new amphitheater at Waterloo Park. I’m sure those will be significant. I already hate anything having to do with NFTs
New Clive Bar on Rainey opened today. It’s nice, but no TVs if I wanna watch a game. Im gonna be sad when Container Bar and Bungalow are no more
There's not a single bad thing about the possibility of Container Bar going away. That crowd can mosey on back to Rio why are they going away though?
well that part sucks. Wonder how long it will be until that entire street doesn't have any bars on it....
There are three planned, which I think will reach saturation for that area. I think in total four bars are going away (although each new high rise will have bars at ground level). The small one next to the food truck park is being moved - like the house is physically moving - behind Reina. Tallest building in the state looks like it’s gonna happen, across the street from IronWorks.
like they built a little pointy antennae on the top of it that reached high enough to make it the new tallest one
That was tallest residential. This is tallest period. Suck it Houston. https://austin.towers.net/64-months...-tower-in-texas-right/[email protected]
Not gonna lie Ive never lived the high rise lifestyle, and i make enough now to where i could attempt it with a roommate. thinking about one of these rainey spots
I'd do it for a year just to do it. Lot of those high rise places have a "roommate" floorplan. Monarch had a great one IIRC we each paid 1800/mo. Fun as shit have all the fancy people shit like concierge and nice as hell amenities and to be able to step outside and be at the bar. lots of game-spitting strategies that wouldn't work under any other circumstances somehow never failed due to that proximity. get on the topic of dogs. roommate and me both had a picture of Baxter available. be out day drinking for a few hours and girls see a pic of him and point to the monarch like well he's in there should we got get him? retrieve dog > he hangs out at the bar > girls come back when its time to take him back upstairs and stay a while. pretty sure I did that same exact thing that time you came and met up with me and the blond chick and her friends at Gibson that time for NFL games and I was living at town hollow
being the designated pregame spot for damn near every night the crew goes out gets OOOOOLD though. But you normally end up with a lot of free leftover booze people bring to pregame with
I moved downtown in June 2020 (before the housing market got really dumb, I got very lucky). It's not a highrise - 10 stories - but I love it. I'll go weeks without driving, saving those costs, and have most of what I need within a 10 minute walk. The homeless are an issue, and we have one noisy bar across the street, but it's fun being able to shut down early like I did yesterday and finding a bar to decompress.
haven't been to rainey in forever, i miss it. always liked lustre pearl (tommy want wingy is amazing). first date with the wife was at javalina
I really only go to Lustre, Parlor and Idle Hands (live music + projector out front for games). Clive was a regular spot before the remodel so I'm good with getting that back. TBH there were a few too many of the same thing on the street so losing a couple to another condo isn't a big deal. Downside probably that the other ones will get a little more packed but I don't go out there enough for that to matter. Starting to go out more on the east side anyways
Yall are making me feel old. I still live at the monarch and I can count on one hand the times I've been out on rainey or west 6th within the past 2 years
Its Franklin's BBQ fest. Bunch of local and celebrity chefs/bbq people. I'm going more for food but there are bands playing every day "Reminder: Hot Luck was founded by James Beard Award-winner Aaron Franklin, Guerilla Suit principal and Mohawk owner James Moody, and Mike Thelin, co-founder of Feast Portland. The four-day event brings together some of Franklin’s favorite chefs and musicians from all over North America and beyond. It’s a weekend where professionals come to Austin to participate in a culinary summer camp and cook like they would for their friends in their backyard. And, this time, you’re among those friends."
Cute little town filled with Chinese backed commercial real estate you got there. Be a real shame if you lost it.
Cute little town filled with Saudi backed commercial real estate you got there. Be a real shame if it flooded.
Went DT to dirty 6 for the first time in 3 years and damn if 5th street nearby isnt filled with a bunch of new high rises and hotels
pumped for season tix this year. taking the lady friend to the Atlas FC friendly Wednesday for her Bday
My buddy and I got drunk with Bucky Richardson’s daughter and her d-bag boyfriend a few years ago. It’s a good time.
I hope we don't get nuked by memorial day because this lineup looks incredible. https://www.hotluckfest.com/chefs
isn't the majority of stuff on that list normally for people looking to do business networking? I honestly can't think of something that was really fun music-wise that I've ever gotten into because of an RSVP list
so moody theater tickets ? are there any 'bad' seats? looking at tickets for stereolab later this year and theres a few seats open in most spots. Im old so I figured balcony would be ok, but there are some seated spots on the lower part still available for a couple bucks more.
not a bad seat in the house. I've sat damn near everywhere. If there's any kind of light show type presentation that makes their concerts more enjoyable then obviously the seats a 3-9 o'clock from the stage front aren't as good. But sound is great everywhere and none of them are too far away from the stage to see performers
So I've seen Kygo and Dillon Francis, any other big names next week? Is swishahouse doing a spot this year? I've been following dirtyteam but just curious.
