There are other benefits that, that package has like unlimited streams or something like that some people really need so take a look at everything it offers but imo no, it's not worth it just for the 4k offering. Actually what I had in mind when I was talking about being careful of the 4k stuff was Netflix. I used to have the highest level package of that where most things are 4k and I found I would get buffering on Netflix fairly often. It was pretty fucking annoying. Then I switched down to the normal HD package and haven't had a problem since.
YTTV kinda had to add all that other stuff to the 4K package because 4K alone at $19.99 is a joke considering how little programming is broadcasted in 4K. They market it as the 4K upgrade because that's the flashiest part of the upgrade, but in reality 4K is really only a small part of it
So I ended up packaging my cell phone services (4 lines, $30 per line) and was able to pair that with internet (300 mpbs) for $50. Add in the YTTV $90. I end up paying $200 a month for those services. Prior I was paying $410. So not bad.
Bankz Goose With the switchover from fball to basketball season, there is much more coverage in 4k now. YMMV though if you only care about fball between the two. Soccer is on almost every week in 4k, which is huge for me.
Guess they didn't like the flood of YTTV subscribers using them for their trial without ever getting a penny out of them.
Standard quarterly equates to $65 a month. They should at least give you a discount for committing to three months.
They still have the free trial so it's not that, but like the article's saying probably moreso an attempt to get more money out of this string of high leverage content (Olympics, super bowl, march madness). The current live streaming model struggles to be profitable if large portions of users only stay for a month at a time when some big event happens. It's also why some have turned off free trials around big events like the super bowl to not give that content away for free.
My shop has some slightly dated TVs and aren’t “smart” enough to have a YTTV app built in. What is the best route to take so I can make this work? Fire Stick or other option.
I was a fire stick fanboy, and still have a fire tv on one tv. All of our non smart TVs are roku now. Not as much bloat and easy interface. My in-laws went to streaming tv and put them on roku and even they can work it.
While this isn't cord cutting per se, there are a lot of sports viewers in here who will appreciate. Glad this device finally came in - basically an hdmi switcher to display/arrange up to 4 HDMI inputs. I got tired of incredibly spotty support for PiP across the different apps and devices. Its now all under simple control, 4 hdmi sources into a single box, and I just run whatever device/app I want to on for splitscreen/PiP/PbP/quad view/etc. If you're interested, get one now while it's in stock. It was previously expected to be unavailable for the first half of '22. $140 https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=24740 Ignore the wires, or video sources - this is just proof of concept. Can output 4k30, but i'm just using this for sports, so a lot of 1080p60fps feeds.
my HOA had a deal with spectrum so our bill was only ever $50 a month for 2 boxes (1 of which is DVR), that deal just ended and now our bill is $136/month so I guess im hopping on the YouTube tv train any pain points I should be aware of?
Not really. Feed is delayed by 30 seconds or so, so if you like to be on Twitter during live games, you’ll want to stop that (I generally check Twitter and texts during commercials if I’m watching a game I care about). Other than that, it’s clean and easy to use. DVR is the best in the business imo
after using it for a few days it's been alright I think the biggest issue is the clunkiness of recording something. That also might just be the limitation of using an apple tv remote, but if i'm watching something and want to record something that's also live, it will just flip to that channel instead of being able to hit a record button on the remote so I dont leave my current channel. So now im on the wrong channel just to start a recording and have to find the previous channel (which I do like the customize order for the guide, that's really nice). That's my only real complaint so far. There are like 5 channels missing that i'd like, but that's more for my wife as I dont really watch much tv besides live sports.
You can also hit the down button twice when you're watching something and there's a list of the last several channels you've been on.
another user still on the old view on my devices as of last night. Picture in picture is arriving for YTTV on iOS 15 devices starting this week. Not on my ipad yet.
You can only keep three of these five services, which two do you cut? Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, Hulu and Apple TV+?
Considering I only subscribe to Netflix out of those the only other one I would have any interest in subscribing to would be HBO Max.
HBO Max is just levels above everything else imo wrt to value/content. Disney+ is prob up there as well, just not my brand of content, but if you have kids it’s kind of an automatic. Netflix has gotten more expensive and it’s content is marginal. I’m only keeping it bc I get it discounted with one of my phone plans. Hulu is pure trash imo. Apple TV+ is bad, but if you are in the ecosystem and have Apple Music, iCloud storage, Arcade, etc. it’s like an extra $2-3 to get, so the value with the Apple One bundle is tough to beat, but content is weak.
My relationship is weird/skewed. I have Disney+ ESPN+ Hulu Netflix HBO Max Peacock MLB.tv And paramount+ For $5.xx a month as paramount is the only one I pay for. There is only one shared pw (Netflix) among the list When the partnerships dry up, and they stop giving them away, I'll develop a different opinion.
