Licorice Pizza and Power of the Dog were my favorites of the best picture nominees. still want to see Drive My Car and Belfast
I thought the Power of the Dog was meh (I find Cumberbatch annoying most times) but rewatched and enjoyed it.
I do not understand why it is seemingly the overwhelming favorite for the Oscar at the moment but thought it was a good film
I get that it's basically just a big Hollywood circlejerk but still can't believe Don't Look Up is a best picture nominee.
Not surprised given it's not exactly the Academy's type of movie, but I loved Pig and held out some hope it would get a couple noms. Dunno who you knock out in the Best Actress category for her, but thought Alana Haim was excellent in Licorice Pizza.
Even on second watch when I enjoyed it more it was definitely not something worthy of all the praise it’s getting.
Agreed. Many very smart people are saying texasraider interest level is the best barometer of the film industry’s success.
Did Jonah Hill get a nom? He’s the only thing about Don’t Look Up that deserves that kind of credit. also, suicide squad was better than Dune and DLU
I wanted to see Alana Haim get nominated for Licorice Pizza. I still need to watch Power of the Dog, Belfast, and Nightmare Alley, and will be checking out Drive My Car after seeing these nominations.
Belfast (Laura Berwick, Kenneth Branagh, Becca Kovacik and Tamar Thomas, Producers) CODA (Philippe Rousselet, Fabrice Gianfermi and Patrick Wachsberger, Producers) Don’t Look Up (Adam McKay and Kevin Messick, Producers) Drive My Car (Teruhisa Yamamoto, Producer) Dune (Mary Parent, Denis Villeneuve and Cale Boyter, Producers) King Richard (Tim White, Trevor White and Will Smith, Producers) Licorice Pizza (Sara Murphy, Adam Somner and Paul Thomas Anderson, Producers) Nightmare Alley (Guillermo del Toro, J. Miles Dale and Bradley Cooper, Producers) The Power of the Dog (Jane Campion, Tanya Seghatchian, Emile Sherman, Iain Canning and Roger Frappier, Producers) West Side Story (Steven Spielberg and Kristie Macosko Krieger, Producers) Bolded what I have seen so far. Plan to watch Don't look up, drive my car (HBO Max on March 2), king richard, nightmare, and power of the dog. Don't give a fuck about Belfast or CODA
That’s a bad opinion and you should feel bad about it. Also, we know you’re an emo little bitch, so you’d absolutely enjoy CODA.
Nightmare Alley is on HBO max and I thought it was pretty good. Dune and the Last Duel were two of best cinematic experiences I've had. Now this might be because we didn't get to go to movie theaters for bit and I'm a Dune guy, but King Richard over The Last Duel? I know the Williams sisters succeed in life. I don't know how this duel is going to work out.
I liked Licorice Pizza but it would have been much better with a plot that didn't constantly jump from one thing to another. It was like I was watching a few random episodes of a good TV show thrown together.
Just finished it and immediate reaction was I feel like it will be better on rewatch it was captivating but I left not know what to think
would be much less embarrassing to accept the fact they are a niche program now (just like everything else that isnt the national football league) but congrats on drawing zero extra viewers with an extended encanto music montage that the most interested parties will just watch on twitter or youtube like they always would have
Would have liked to see Comer, Affleck or Driver get nommed for The Last Duel. Not the greatest movie I saw last year, but all the performances were strong.
I just finished CODA. Holy shit, what a film. I haven't enjoyed a movie that much in a really long time. That should win Best Picture and it's an absolute farce that Emilia Jones isn't nominated for Best Actress.
Update: saw it and it’s by far the best film I saw from 2021, it won’t win but it should. At this point I’m just hoping Power of the Dog doesn’t win the major categories, although it looks like Campion is a lock for Director
bronco henrys jerk off hut was the funniest thing ive seen in a film this year him writing his name on his homoerotic literature was the nail in the coffin
