It doesn’t look like much, but this is one of Lagerstrom’s big ass salads and it’s delicious. Smoked salmon, romaine, shredded cabbage, pickled ginger, toasted pumpkin seeds, broccolini, nori strips, and a creamy ginger miso dressing.
Its pretty much the dudes in our group and their SO's. nobody has kids so anything like this will get 100% attendance
I made his 25 minute chicken caesar salad and we were pouring the dressing on everything. He has become my go-to for recipes.
His shit is super delicious and very accessible. I took notice when it was still sardines and whatever so it’s great to see him blowing up a little. Let’s eat this thing.
I’m old, married, and have a kid. We live different lives and while I wouldn’t trade my wife and kid for anything, I’m still quasi envious
Random photo drop. Not all are completed dishes. Ramen broth with some leftover beef, roasted broccoli, scallion, red onion, bean sprouts, 6 min egg Braised pork shoulder and veggies over cauliflower rice Tom Kha soup with shrimp, chicken, mushrooms, tomatoes These are boneless thighs coated with a mayo and harrisa mix and baked Baked Cod The board
Not trying to go too far off topic, but it’s kind of impressive that anyone older than 21 can have this many friends and none of them have kids.
I’m closer to 40 than 30 these days, but I don’t think 21 is the number you’re looking for here. I don’t have a single friend who had a child before 25-ish.
Just the nature of the beast in Austin. Nobody in their 20s and early 30s seem to want kids bc they'd rather get their #travel done in those years. Have been out with a lot of girls in the past decade that straight up don't want kids and want a dual income; no kids (DINK) life. Pretty stark contrast from all my friends from HS and College who live in the southeast and I can't think of one off the top of my head that doesn't have at least one kid if not 2-3. One guy did say on Friday that him and his wife are pulling the goalie this summer so that could cause a chain reaction in the group
I'm 40 and only have a couple friends w/o kids. None of which live here now. The ones with kids are jealous when i cook nice meals on weeknights. Not even fancy by this threads standards fwiw.
Obviously we're looking for people without kids to have a dinner party and eat tandn. Read between the lines, man.
Trying to utilize the egg as a smoker more this year, so gave it a go with some chicken, baby backs, and stl ribs with pecan wood. I used the same rub on both ribs (pretty standard w/ some hungarian hot paprika) but then basted the baby backs with gojuchang and apple cider vinegar. Cook was a little inconsistent on the baby backs but I thought the stl ribs were damn close to being very good. The chicken was absolute fire and I used the last of it in a smoked chicken stock instant ramen the other night.
Thanks for posting this in here. If you ever get around to real whole hog bbq we have a thread for you
Found an Italian meatloaf recipe that my wife made last night. Really good. Pretty much a giant meatball..
Do this as well. I love cauliflower and have turned it into quite a few different things. Mash, purée, creamed soup, etc I have made “grits” from it for shrimp and grits. Riced it and cooked it down, then brought together with a little cream. Cut into a steak and roasted, then topped with marinara/cheese and broiled. “Mac” n Cheese Fried “rice” Another Curry Dish They key to ricing it yourself in a food processor is to remove most of the big stems, then go slow and pulse it in smaller batches and stop at the size you’re looking for. Roast the stems and eat them by themselves, or rice them separately.
Found some double cut pork chops on sale at publix this week. Cooked them tonight but didn't realize it took 2.5 hours in the sous vide so I just finished them. Made a quick gravy at the end with some garlic/butter/cream and the juice from vacuum bag. Best pork chops I've ever had. Spoiler
I have a tomahawk ribeye in the freezer that I already seasoned (SnP, garlic powder) with the intention of just throwing it straight into the sous vide. If I were to deviate and let that defrost and then reverse sear on the smoker, do you think the salt will fuck up the texture/moisture as it defrosts?
poor paul IvanTheTerrible et al. I’m looking for an authentic NOLA bbq shrimp recipe. Y’all got one you like?
Kind of my standard night meat and veg type meal. Sous vide boneless chops, cauliflower mash, sautéed tomatoes/onions/shrooms/celery. Sautéed celery is underrated.
How do you braise your chicken for tacos? I usually get lazy and just put them in a Dutch oven with salsa and pop it in the oven
I roast a whole chicken until it's barely fully cooked. Let it come down to room temperature, pull it all off of the bone, and then mix it with homemade enchilada sauce (watch Binging with Babish for similar recipe) and cook it in the oven at 275 for 35-45 minutes.
Sous vide / seared pork belly with a glaze of hot sauce and a little honey, roasted purple cauliflower, some indoor cinnamon cap mushrooms I found at the farmers maket today.
