I’m with you that it is frustrating. Especially as we all sit and watch this unfold in real-time. But the US staying directly out of this conflict unless left no choice is the right move. The ramifications of a head-to-head war with Russia would be unlike anything we’ve seen in our lifetime. As would the the loss of American lives. Not to mention the fact it could result in a conflict with China. Which would likely take years to resolve. So as much as I’d love to see us swoop in and help save Ukraine, restraint is definitely the way to go.
As IV said, our geopolitical position and relatively uninterrupted reign as top dog for the last 70 years has cushioned us in a way that makes most Americans naturally lazy when it comes to affairs elsewhere. Luckily, there is certainly no lack of literature and periodicals to peruse, so it's never too late to learn.
Samesies; read a whole lot more than I ever listen to. Marty Kaan It sounds trite to say, but I wouldn't recommend any particular thing to read; consume as much as you can from as many sources as you can and read between the lines.
I don’t get why people are asking this and have such an infatuation with it. People are clearly searching #s and posting what they find
I'd quibble to say read hard news at like 90/10 to op-ed stuff. Probably more like 50 hard news 40 something grounded in explicit political theory and 10 op-ed. the latter often overlaps. Also audit credibility, hard.
Absolutely this. Biggest gripe I have with the 24-hour TV news cycle is that it's (at best) the inverse of this. Get the facts and draw your own conclusions from them.
because it shows a complete lack of credibility in the source and also is confusing from a how to use twitter standpoint.
and just scrolling twitter hashtags is absolute insane depraved behavior thats going to feed you the absolute worst stuff
So instead of bitching about it how about you create some lists for others to follow or suggest some good follows
I’m not disagreeing with that but it’s a different argument. Focusing on how they found it is pointless
Marco would know these things, as vile as he is, isn't he the vice chair of the intelligence committee? I dont want to die
Why does this embarrassing coward, ie GOP politician and US Senator, have a Twitter pic that looks like a random middle aged chud? He’s just missing sunglasses.
the best option is to just click the tweets in here that are sharing the real news and follow them, no OSINT, no ANONYMOUS shit. if it doesn't say like NYT Foreign Intelligence Reporter skip it. Foreign affairs is a completely different world than most of what I follow regarding domestic politics. Dave Weigel is a domestic political reporter but often retweets the big foreign stuff. Chris Hayes a solid retweeter and aggregator. Matt Fuller. Carl Quintanilla is super cringe but retweets big news events. Spencer Ackerman is the best for alternative foreign policy take Joe Weisenthal the GOAT for finance related issues. Jeff Stein Matthew Zeitlin Funnily enough if you can parse some credibility weaknesses Populism Updates is one of the best at aggregating it all around the globe. Probably the #1 catch all account.
It might be about time to move on from the “full terrifying weight of the Russian military” and see it for what it looks like: a shadow of world war 2 prestige and a misalgamation of country size = military strength.
Populism Updates is probably the first english speaking media that I saw write about Zelensky even before he ran for President.
See there we go good posts guys FourClover01 there we go bud, here is how to use twitter Glad TMB could educate a Michigander. Sometimes you just have to break it down for them and make it easy
Filter:verified (sports topic I want to read about) and going to Latest is pretty much most of my Twitter use. Twitter would suck if I couldn’t filter that shit
If you want solid stuff from Ukrainian nationals, The Kyiv Independent, along with their reporter Illia Ponomarenko, have been outstanding throughout this.
If I'm one of the select Russian citizens capable of having a vacation in Vienna, I don't know that I'd want to be evacuated to back to Kazan with undue haste.
