If TDK was a 10, this was an 8. Okay beginning and ending. Middle was fire Prob couldve cut 20 or so mins out
complaining about a ton of plot holes in a super hero movie is a reason to never watch a super hero movie. This one was actually on the lower end of the scale. If that is what you are mad at, you weren’t going to like the movie to start with.
One of the best things they did about this Batman is explain Spoiler how Batman can’t be all over but the idea is there. That was brilliant for them to actually tell the dipshits that point.
Yeah no, that's an overgeneralization. I don't mind superhero plot holes. I loved the Nolan trilogy and I even enjoyed Peacemaker way more. Spoiler Ignoring the fact that Batman took C4 to the face and had no scars, burning or facial trauma (that is a superhero plot hole I don't care about), he's unconscious in the police station for who knows how long and no one takes his mask off?? At the end when he goes full on beserker mode, I'm fine with that but a little set up or backstory on the mysterious goo from Doom he keeps in his pocket would have been nice, its lazy writing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deus_ex_machina That and the fucking movie just wouldn't end. Again I point to everything being solved and wrapped up and oh what a surprise, there's another plot twist. I think my biggest gripe was with the writing.
Liked it, didn’t love it. It looked amazing, but definitely some cheesy dialogue and plot points mixed in
Spoiler lol I’m not sure if C4 to the face or the BASE jump accident where he swung up underneath the bridge then tumbled a couple hundred feet down the road at like 45 mph was more egregious My wife was cackling like an idiot for a good five minutes after that because it was just so ridiculously brutal still enjoyed the hell out of it
Yeah, I was kind of surprised the base jump ended like that. Pretty good opportunity to cash in on a badass superhero landing.
Oh and bc of the general vibe and tone of this movie, the post credit scene should have 100% been Alfred telling Batman they got a package. In the from label there is only a “HAHAHAHAHA” Alfred takes a box cutter. Opens the box. Then with a gasp, he steps away. He stumbles over the chair behind him. But his eyes dart to Batman. And back to the box. Frantically. Batman asks, “Alfred, what’s in the box?” But Alfred won’t answer. “Alfred, WHATS IN THE BOXXXXX?!”
Yeah this and believe he hesitated before jumping to show how new he is, he had the move in his bag of tricks but the sense I got was that was his first time
Shapiros review is surely due to corrupt politicians and police and the one cat woman line about old white guys.
i just got back tonight and i thought it was fantastic. i'm not a comic book reader (can't tell you anything about the famous comics that the plot is based on, for example) and i enjoyed it on first watch as much as Batman Begins and TDK. Spoiler - the grounded story was genius with this being "early batman". no decked-out bat cave; really, just the contact lens. the abandoned train tracks into the wayne penthouse was great. the batmobile was honestly the best of every movie. - the parallels between batman and the riddler were so pronounced during the movie and then culminating with riddler's reveal that he think of batman as a partner -- fucking brilliant. i was on to that from the very start when your intro to both characters was them spying on someone from a building across the street. - the riddler as a character was so much more interesting than Bane, who's supposed to be some genius but doesn't really demonstrate that. The detective aspect of this was great. - everything with batman and catwoman was great, obviously. though neither falcone or penguin were all that compelling to me but the club setting was awesome and selena there was great. - the "realism" of the evilness - of paul dano beating the shit out of the mayor and of the shooters at MSG in the rafters - was pretty chilling. i didn't love that Batman takes so many gunshots (plus the wingsuit crash... plus the bomb to the face) but the actual danger there felt very real in a jarring way. - music/soundtrack was fantastic. i'm so glad i stopped watching trailers to this movie after the first one so most scenes remained unspoiled. - i'm excited to see where this franchise goes. so much bruce wayne to explore + all of the batman toys and tools. i think this movie as an origin story will age perfectly.
When you as talented a screenwriter and novelist as Ben is, your opinions on film should be taken with the highest regard.
You're surprised how many people like a movie that you said you liked, in agreeance with Corch saying he liked it as well? That's an odd stance.
I saw this last night, that was about as good as I ever could have hoped another Batman movie could be at this point. A self-contained story, Batman and the villains were all great imo, and it had it's own vibe. I really liked leaning into the detective side of Batman. Also, this movie had a good understanding of modern internet culture that I wish was more common. The gag where the Riddler was basically a YouTuber in his final video was great. I hope Reeves and Pattinson make another movie.
Idk, good chance he’s misunderstanding what “art house porn” actually means…. Saw the movie last night on a big screen with Dolby Atmos (think it was my first movie in a theater with Atmos - absolutely worth it for a movie like this). The score was incredible. Movie overall was great. Really looking forward to the continuation of this Batman. Was a little pissed off by the after credits piece, but only because I went to a late showing and really had to go to the bathroom.
Spoiler: Future prospects All I know is that Barry Keoghan will have a hell of a time trying to come close to as intriguing as a Joker as Heath. I really wonder how they will try.
