At ~8 mph pace that's a 3 hour lead. Something catastrophic would have to happen to Brent for Dallas to over take him. But recent history has provided proof it's possible. In 2014, Jeff King (huge asshole) had an hour lead in this stretch where his team quit on him. They get a fucking full 8 hours rest at the checkpoint? Why didn't Seavey leave an hour or two before on less rest? (I know nothing about the Iditarod, just curious)

They are required to take a 24 and an 8 hr rest wherever they want. They also require an additional 8 hr rest at White Mountain (this past checkpoint). For the health and safety of the dogs.

I have fed several possums on my back deck for about the same amount of time. They're actually really cute. I'm figuring their life spans are only like 3 years in the wild but that's based on nothing.

They may also be infested with fleas, ticks, mites, and lice. Opossums are hosts for cat and dog fleas, especially in urban environments.
