    It's all low voltage?

edit: I see line voltage too - but guessing most of what they sell is low voltage.

low voltage is super basic. Kind of a pain in the balls running the lines. Super satisfying when finished

So we spent a ton of money on a new custom home and have a massive problem.

My kids are leaving these massive shit streaks in the toilets. Just absolutely massive stains. I can’t even chip the shit off with a strong piss stream. Wtf. I’m laughing my ass off at this problem. I guess it’s just the way low flow toilets are made? Never had this problem in the old house. Told my wife I’m going to spray scotchgard all over the bowl and see what happens.

Not a guarantee but clorox makes bleach tabs that you can drop in the tank (and your water stays clear, not that creepy blue shit) and it seems to help some with my kids.

Update: Bought a seat cover and a touch up paint pen for this bad boy. Also had the dealership install a mulching kit. I should be getting an AARP card in the mail any day now.

I also just installed one of these bad boys on my back deck (:getoffmylawn:). The light the previous owners had back there was hilariously dim and pretty much useless. Install process was super simple and I’m digging it.

Contractors accidently ordered two toilets during our reno. I don't see it on my bill anywhere and i have paid it all off. I'm not going to tell them about it.

Anyways, how much would it cost for me to have it installed in the unfinished part of my basement? Aesthetically I know it will look ridiculous and will probably even take it out whenever we list the house, but my Dad comes down and stays with us from time to time and he sleeps in the finished part of the basement. He currently either pees in my backyard at night or tip toes upstairs in the middle of the night to pee. Feel like I could have a plumber bootleg something down there and it would come in handy. Also during Covid I worked down there and would have paid huge $$ for a urinal or something close by.

Of course I have thought about just building a little bathroom down there but don't want to spend $10,000 right now.

A grinder pump with a pit will look best but be 10k+ like you state. They do have pumps that are built into platforms I believe. It will look a bit ghetto, but you could prob do it that way for quite a bit less. Might be able to do it yourself.

Are there drains roughed in to the slab already? Do you see PVC pipes sticking up out of the concrete? Need a 4" line for a commode. If the answer is no, then cutting of concrete and plumbing ensues.

no there isn't. I thought it would be possible to install some kind of pump that could direct it up to the 4" line. The location where I thought to put the toilet is directly underneath a first floor bathroom and the 4" sewer line is visible along the ceiling of the basement.

We talking about a Pittsburg toilet situation? Man I hope so.

But why not hollow out the bottom and put a bucket underneath? That seems like a step above pissing in the flowers

This can be done, but for the cost of just the plumbing and pump, plan a build out for a full bath. Do it in phases if you have to. ROI on another bath is favorable, if you have space.

again kinda ghetto, but relatively cheap if you can do it yourself.

I have a San-I-flow or something like that. Wasn’t terrible expensive, maybe $1000, but when you add in the rest of the confines, sink for the bathroom and other miscellaneous items it’s easily ten grand.

We finished our basement and cut the concrete and put in a pit for a toilet and sinks. I did it with my dad (I mostly watched, though lucky me I got to dig much of the hole for the pit from clay soil). Having seen it done and doing part myself, it’s def doable, esp if not cutting concrete - most plumbing for this type of stuff is making sure the pitch is right and then gluing things together. That said might want to have a handy friend to help and make sure you double check everything is ready to go before you start. You will also need to cut into your existing sewage line, so keep that in mind

If we stay in the house I will probably just pay a contractor to install a half bath down there.

eirher want to do absolute bare minimum Pittsburg toilet or build in something nice. Doesn’t seem like even a shitty looking setup will be cheap.

We've been talking about getting an up-flush toilet for years. Either way, it's super expensive and a lot of work, if the basement isn't already plumbed for it.

We are looking at doing tile in our bathroom and my wife really wanted hex tile, so she got some boxes of white at home depot that were pretty cheap.

The issue is the tile she got was pure white and our shower subway tile is off white. So, to me, it makes the subway tile look dirty. She thinks is fine but she doesnt love it. Thoughts?

I'm about to replace my central A/C with a 2.5 ton unit, probably something 14 SEER. Keeping the old ducts.

Does anyone have recommendations? Specifically I'm wondering, which brands have the best / worst thermostats?

I'm not sure what's meant by integrated. Do you mean like something that integrates with smart home stuff, gets forced firmware updates over the web?

bc im trying to avoid that and im not sure how

Pay a couple of hundred bucks and get the tub and tile resurfaced before you start tearing stuff out. Gives a surprisingly good result. If you don’t like it then you start replacing it.

There’s some multi-thermostat systems that have the thermostats talk a proprietary protocol but the actual HVAC controls are super simple usually. Just a handful of relays that turn things off/on.
