Northeastern women lost to UMD 2-1. Probably never gonna win a title if they couldn't with this group of superstars and like 9 grad students. Sigh
The first line of the statement. Obligatory, bring back the original CCHA. This would have never happened with Michigan in charge.
How about Northeastern sweating out 3 overtime games knowing they need the favorites to win 2. Mankato scores and you are in the tournament, followed by a not so fast my friend and having to wait and hope they can score again to keep you in the tournament.
Natural layout. Allentown, Pa. 1. Michigan vs. 16. American International 8. Quinnipiac vs. 9. Notre Dame Albany, N.Y. 2. Minnesota State vs. 15. Harvard 7. North Dakota vs. 10. SCSU Worcester, Mass. 3. Western Michigan vs. 14. Northeastern 6. Minnesota vs. 11. Massachusetts Loveland, Colo. 4. Denver vs. 13. Massachusetts-Lowell 5. Minnesota Duluth vs. 12. Michigan Tech Need to eliminate UND/SCSU first round matchup. Do they swap Notre Dame and SCSU or do they swap SCSU and UMass? If they swap SCSU and UMass does that then become the Worcester Regional and the Worcester Regional become the Albany Regional?
What a shit show. Kind of funny that you either have ND & Mich in the same region or a first round SCSU vs Motzko (not to mention an rematch of a game with an egregious OT non-call from October).
It is in this article. https://www.uscho.com/2022/03/20/mi...top-seeds-as-ncaa-tournament-field-announced/
This tournament is random af but UM couldn't have asked for a better draw. Avoided North Dakota and ND.
More detail for anybody that wants to read it. https://m.startribune.com/ccha-comm...story-with-awkward-call-to-play-on/600157873/ If it’s behind a paywall, the Bemidji players saw it on their phones when they got to the locker room. They passed it along to commissioner Lucia and he brought everybody back out. Refs had not left the arena yet.
Thoughts: 1) who in the fuck publishes a bracket where the top 2 and bottom 2 regions play each other in the semifinal instead of left vs right meeting in the middle? 2) An all B1G championship game is a potential 3) An all Minnesota final 4 is a potential and doesn’t seem that far fetched. 4) An all NCHC final 4 is a potential. 5) 5 MA, 4 MN, 3 MI teams…not much state diversity 6) 5 NCHC, 3 B1G, 3 Hockey East, 2 CCHA, 2 ECAC, 1 Atlantic Hockey …B1G would have been the next in if ECAC (Harvard) didn’t steal a bid.
Michigan has the best regional draw they could ask for, but single elimination hockey tournaments are tricky. All bets are off this time of year.
That is always the challenge. I sort of like our draw where we are a road team against the defending champ in game 1 and likely have Western Michigan where there is no history/distraction in round 2.
Halonen. Wow. What an idiot. You can’t have your best players taking majors early in the first period. That was an obvious major.
Good start for the state of Minnesota. Mankato State and UMD both advance. Notre Dame vs North Dakota is next. One of the more interesting first round matchups. A Notre Dame vs Mankato matchup would be hard to watch but I can’t bring myself to cheer for UND.
Just a thought for the NCAA. Maybe it isn't a great idea to use non hockey venues. When I saw the first replay with the arena clock I was like cool we are going to overtime because it wasn't even close, this should take a bout 30 seconds to review. Pretty tight checking game but Notre Dame probably had more good scoring chances and deserved and earned the W. I know Driscoll had 2-3 goal robbing saves and I don't remember the Irish goalie having to really make any big goal saving stops. The Slaggert brothers are a handful and UND definitely could have used Sanderson.
Notre Dame is a tough opponent to play against. They’re a lot like a UMD. They are very structured and disciplined protecting the net and they take advantage of the odd man rush opportunities. I picked North Dakota in my pool but has them losing to Mankato mostly because I wasn’t confident in ND/UND.
Michigan should roll today but we are due for someone to get goalied in the first round. Don’t be us please.
It didn’t show out last night, but we’re a true pain in the ass to play against when we have a lead. Go up multiple goals on us, and it’s a totally different story…
Northeastern vs Western Michigan has gotten interesting as NE has tied it up 1-1 late in the 3rd. It seems like there is a #4/1 upset every year (and I picked this one). Update: Going to OT
2-1 OT loss ends what was a really promising first season for Jerry Keefe as HC Devon Levi was marvelous in goal for them
Saint Cloud State ruins everything. They had the chance to knock the East out of the tournament and they blew it. Through one round: B1G: 3-0 NCHC: 3-2 WCHA: 1-1 ECAC: 1-1 Atlantic Hockey: 0-1 Hockey East: 0-3 States: MN: 3-1 MI: 2-1 MA: 0-5 (ouch) NCHC will get at least 1 team (Denver/UMD) with a max 2 (WMU) B1G could be anywhere from 0 to 3 The state of Minnesota could get anywhere from 0 to 3. If Michigan beats Quinnipiac, we will have an all Western final 4. Lines for the region finals. Denver/UMD and WMU/Minn are both pick ems.
UMD must be living right. The are getting completely dominated for 15 minutes straight and could easily be down 4-0 and they score on first chance they get and lead 1-0.
It seems very UMD-like. I respect the program and what they have done but they seem like they get a lot of fortunate outcomes even when it’s outside of their control.
That looked gross. Hoping for the best but not sure how a leg moves that way without something serious
Notre Dame 0 Mankato State 1 Predictable 1 O/U. B1G suffers its first loss. (3-1) MN puts one in the Frozen 4. NCHC & WCHA now each have 1 in the F4.
