James and Ziegler were missing open corner threes today as well. James's shot percentage from three on the year is pretty fucked, because he broke a finger on his shooting hand in December. So he played with a split, and he was advised to have surgery and didn't. When it got better he shot well. Chandler kept falling in mock drafts as he actually played better, I know Barnes has been on Chandler to come back for another year.
SEC has really shit the bed in the NCAA Tournament. Normally we do pretty well. Pathetic. Fucking Calipari and Rick Barnes always choking in the tournament.
There's a lot of brutal variance in one game (look at Billy D going from first weekend exits to tourney consistency) but Barnes track record over 10+ years is brutal. He's either gonna keep this up or win multiple titles if variance goes the other way.
I mean, we won the SEC tournament for the first time in 43 years. Yes, our team is probably talented enough to make a final four. We didn't. I'm used to bad luck. As a Liverpool fan, I'm aware you have to go through this. So now, I'm prepared. We go again.
For sure, regardless of tourney failures Barnes has built a solid and sustaining program which is impressive. If he keeps recruiting at this level that will continue. Random but did yall just get lucky finding Zeigler late and keep other programs from finding out or something? His 247 timeline makes it seem like that's the case, gonna be a solid 4 year player.
We found Zeigler at the the peach jam where the were scouting Cason Wallace, or some other such five star guy we didn't land. Barnes was in for about 4 Five star players, landed a PG from Knoxville Catholic. Cause UT didn't have an NIL deal set up. The UT money people are about to turn on an NIL money fire hose for football.
Appreciate the info. Like I said Barnes has a seemingly sustainable model which is what you have to do if you're not a top 5ish program. Might be up for a bit longer were yall ever on Ques Glover? Particularly we never developed guards worth a shit under White and he just averaged like 20 a game at Sanford.
This was our last year's AU type season. imo We'll see what Oats can do with a really good recruiting class coming in.
We took Ques Glover's teammate on a really good Knoxville Bearden team, Drew Pember, who was 6'9 and he transferred out did very well as UNC Asheville I believe. But Barnes never offered Glover.
Is this similar to Oats? I'm intrigued by Golden, thought we might get a bigger name but in the end trust the process. You really have to look at a whole lot more than 1-2 tourney games where so much depends on hitting shots, can always get hot or cold and you don't get a true sense of the coach/formula/process.
Seems like the state of Tennessee has some underrated talent outside of Memphis. I hate giving Barnes compliments but it also really seemed like every UT player bought it and loved playing. I will always be grateful for Corey Brewer and Lee Humphrey.
The tweet didn't fully explain when we'd foul up 2 but yes. Got fucked in 2017 Sweet 6 vs Wisconsin and last year first round vs Va Tech by not fouling up 3, Mike White specials that probably cost me years of my life. It's similar to announcers saying teams down by 3 late shouldn't shoot a 3 while ignoring kids 3 point percentages these days are somewhat close to every non-layup.
It’s wild that Muss has gotten this skeleton crew into the sweet 16 again. Can’t wait to see what he can do with more talent on the roster next year than he’s ever had
He might actually play guys off the bench for more than 2 minutes a game. Fresh legs will help us late in the season/during tournaments
The 2 for 1 thing is something I don't understand why it hasn't become widespread in college. I get it if you're like a UVA and have to use like 25 seconds on the shot clock before you're even allowed to shoot, but alas that is not the case in the vast majority of college basketball programs.
idc about the opponents didn’t even think we’d make tourney earlier in season We have looked like shit both games, I’m just happy to advance
You guys have talent on the team. It’s pretty obvious. I’m not surprised you won the first two. Beating Gonzaga would surprise me.
My statement was more directed toward our season as a whole, and this team is nowhere near as talented as last years.
