if you hang out on Colfax and 16th Street Mall, then of course you'll get a certain vibe.

You should look in West Denver. Highland/Berkley/Sunnyside and such, since it seems like you can afford it. Can't help you if you think west of Washington Park has too much crime tho

I thought Wash Park was too suburban but Denver Post said it was #3 out of 78 for crime which surprised the hell out of me

I'll just say, if I lived in Washington Park, I would not be concerned about crime for a millisecond. As someone who has looked at houses in Athmar Park and Mar Lee, I get it. Washington park, nah.

I am looking at a house deep in Harvey Park tomorrow. As 'safe' as it may be, it also isn't near anything walkable, which sucks. I'd rather live in a city neighborhood that allowed me to walk to worthwhile businesses, cafes and restaurants even if the crime rating was higher

I visited a friend in Denver last summer and was/am thinking about moving out there. The first thing his wife said to me was, "just stay away from Colfax" lol.

Platt Park in red. LoHi in green. Sloan's Lake in blue.

Neighborhoods I'd look at. I'm a big fan of Platt Park because it's a short light rail to stuff downtown, pretty clean and walkable, and has restaurants and stuff on Pearl St. LoHi has more stuff going on and more of the women I know live there than any other neighborhood. Sloan's Lake I think is already nice on the North side and getting developed/gentrified to the west and south.

I’m digging the RiNo area, feels very safe for the most part. However, the amount of gun shots I hear randomly past 12am is wild. I’m assuming they’re a half mile to mile away, but it’s like 3-4 times a week.

Also, the fact that Denver is a secondary market blows my mind when rent for a 1BR is 2k +

Wife’s mom lives in Berkeley area, right across from Rocky Mountain Lake Park. I go run all throughout that area when we visit, over to Berkeley Lake, up near Regis, and we really like that area. The Highlands or Sunnyside are great too, closer to downtown so more desirable, but the pricing all throughout that area is pretty steep. Her dad lives in Lakewood and I agree with your sentiments on Colfax, even in the middle of the afternoon I’ve seen stuff on that road that was very unexpected.

Thanks for this. Shame I missed Platt Park. I took the light rail down to DU and then walked 11 miles back to my hotel yesterday. Thought I hit everywhere in that area I would've been interested in.

LoHi/Highlands are on the docket for this weekend. I'll see if I can get out to Sloan's Lake too

Just looking at LoHi, 32nd Ave seems to be the sort of thing I was hoping for. I love vibrant residential areas. I hate South Broadway which feels like a highway with strip malls. I much prefer something closer to 19th Ave in Uptown

Maybe it’s because I live in Atlanta but never felt unsafe anywhere in Denver. Walked all around downtown yesterday and had been driving around all week. Broadway was a little sketchy by the homeless shelters but was just like yeah this is a big city and kept walking.

I've never felt unsafe in Denver granted I don't often to places I'm not familiar with after dark either.

I admit to walking / drunkingly galivanting from PS Lounge to some late night pizza slice windows on colfax and never been worried. the further you get from the capitol, the better it gets imhv. Also, sometimes you just eat 3 AM pizza next to some unfortunate souls, and that's okay.

La Abeja worth the trip to Colfax tho. in general a lot of amazing places to eat on colfax. All the ethiopian restaurants, for one

I have never been concerned with areas around homeless shelters in any city I've ever been to. I get a little less comfortable around those who have given up on being in the system and no longer care to participate in society (ie people who hassle you and won't get out of your way)

The area in between LoDo and RiNo can be eye-popping, but ya, not a huge safety issue. Always felt more concerned around civic center park + colfax and where ever those individuals have been forced to since Civic Center Park kinda shut down. Hope we can build more tiny home neighborhoods for the people, but it is just a problem all major cities, especially out west, have to deal with.

First homeless experience I had in Denver was an individual walking up to the station I was filling up at. He grabbed the window washer squeegee and washed his legs without a word.

Absolutely should. It's a great area. You're not going to find something that is literally everything you want.

There's a lot of cool areas in the city, you definitely should take a long weekend and come check it out first.

I need all the recs you can give. Thanks. I’ll be arriving early Saturday morning, with no plans that day or night at all. Going to the Rockies game on Sunday afternoon and Turnpike at Red Rocks Sunday evening. Leave early afternoon on Monday. Any food, bar, and dispensary recs within walking distance of the Hilton would be awesome. Thanks!

Really digging LoHi. I think the point I was trying to make about the other neighborhoods is that I really like when restaurants and stores are part of the community instead of South Broadway which is one road of everything surrounded by endless houses
