also, and I am definitely not a great fisherman (I come home fish-less a lot), look for docks that have more growth and lights. Also, ones with boats that look like they are actually used. The props dig out deeper holes. Barley drag your jigs across bottom. Don’t even “jig” them

the best tarpon bait, like most fish, are whatever is available in the fishery. this smells of something an old head would tell someone young just because.

although I have no doubt tarpon eat hard head cats regularly.

H&H Cocahoe Minnow was basically the only only grub used on the gulf coast in the 80’s, 90’s and early 00’s. Still works just fine today.

It's become a small new tradition for me. This river is only easily accessible by 4wd during turkey and deer season, otherwise the road is closed. So when it opens up, I go and fish it. All wild and can only get to about 7-8 pools before you have to swim or be a rock climber to go further. I'll usually hit a nearby river after assuming I have time.

Pardon my ignorance, but why the full moon hate Pharm & Tarpon Nole ?

Feeding times not matching your fishing times?

I ask because I have been trying to get a better understanding of lunar behavior.

I always hear about ppl hating neap tide because there's no tide movement. Neap tide happens half way between full and new moon.

Depends on the species, but a lot of fish will feed at night under a full moon. I’ll hit up sunrise, then hang around if there is a mid-day major/minor.

However, a full moon does trigger large spawning groups in species like trout, so you’ll see people catch lots of fish leading up to the full moon. The couple of days following it is a great time to cut your grass.

New moon is my favorite, fwiw.

fish eat all night on full moon, plus lots of species spawn on full moons, including bait, so it moves fish out from where they’ve been

a few days after and a few days before are good

Only problem with my boat is it doesn't have a dedicated fish box. The 25 foot version does. I thought one of the forward compartments was a fish box but it's actually just a storage area that drains into the bilge. Both the rod lockers drain into the bilge. Need something for storing large fish like cobia, wahoo, or big snapper. None of them will fit in my 65 qt RTIC (could fit maybe one or two large snapper but the 65 RTIC is only like 25 inches long at the bottom so definitely couldn't fit a cobia in it). I can either have a rod locker plumbed to drain overboard and have it insulated (sounds like major pain in the ass and hate having my boat in the shop being worked on instead of using it -maybe I'll do this in the next offseason) , use coolers, or use a fish bag. The coolers big enough for such fish are monstrous, super heavy, take up half your boat, and cost $1000. Thinking of buying this Reliable Fish Bag. It's 72 inches long so would hold anything I can catch and can keep it folded up in the console when I'm not using it. https://reliablefishing.com/collect...s/30-x-72-insulated-kill-bag-offshore-edition

Some have tried that: apparently it is a massive pain in the ass pumping fish scales/funk overboard and then cleaning it after. It's also not insulated so doesn't hold ice that well.

A lot of them use kayak kill bags. I think a large fish bag> large cooler because it weighs less and can be stored in console when not in use. Prospector has me reconsidering the forward storage box. Thinking about running an experiment this weekend. Plug it and then put some ice in it and see how long it stores. After the fishing trip it seems like a shop vac could suck up any liquid pretty quickly. If it was all bloody and full of scales might be a bit of a pain but potentially not that bad. Then you can clean out the shop vac with some dish soap etc and hopefully it wouldn't stink too bad.

Heard good things about Deckers and Cheesman but never been to either. They are both closeish to Denver. If you don't mind a drive I really like Tomahawk in Hartsel, CO. Dream stream is always pretty busy but might be worth it if you can get there during the week (pretty packed on weekends) it's only ~15 mins from Tomahawk.

I'd be going fishing on a Monday and Thursday. Always heard Deckers in super packed. I'll look into some of the others. I'll actually be staying in Longmont, so on the north side of Denver. It looks like most of those are south west about 2 hours.

Think I might try the Rocky Mountain National Park.

Deckers and Cheeseman are high traffic areas. i like Tomahawk, it’s a quiet meadow stream. some sneaky big fish.

ive heard they have improved the South Platte around Denver, but it’s probably still a carp river.

the road to Estes Park washed out when i was in Denver. i never got to go that way.

i think the arkansas river tailwater is about as far as Cheeseman or Deckers.

i caught my first smallmouth walking the banks of Chattfield res. some of the lakes are stocked and easy to walk a few hours in the evening.

Yeah good luck. They can be real finicky for sure. Never had a day last year as good as Monday was. But last year was I trying on the Little Missouri River, so different spot.

The Little Missouri is much cleared and the most effective seemed to be a blue/silver minnow type bait. The Saline was more murkey and chartreuse anything was the play.

One thing for sure, they've got a soft mouth so having a net to haul them in helped tremendously.
