So let’s say he does commit, where does next years team rank talent wise with some of the greatest Hog teams to date (Triplets, May-Day era, 93-95 Champs)?
I've been thinking about the old days and terms over the weekend. I don't think today's NCAA basketball hits the same. Back then you'd have a kid come in and we would watch them grow and develop, you could really get behind them because you knew them and you saw them getting better. You were watching the team build towards championships. The one and done kids and the portal largely take that away imo Oh well loved watching these guys and remind some of you were overreacting and overly negative in November-December
Dudes do we all recall where this shit was like 5 years ago? I honestly can’t remember a turnaround at any school like this. Goddamn it makes me nervous.
Stole this from Reddit so feel free to correct it if I am mistaken, to put this year’s class in perspective: • Muss has THREE commits all ranked higher than Moody was • Two other recruits are TWO-TIME (’21 & ’22) Gatorade Players of the Year in their respective states • and one more commit that is ranked higher than KK, Devo, AND Jaylin Williams was……… unreal.
So in 2020, Muss landed the #9 class in the country and #4 in the SEC with the following recruits: Moses Moody (4 star and #46 composite player in the country) - who was a one and done and the last pick in the NBA lottery KK Robinson (4 star and #63 composite player in the country) Jaylin Williams (4 star and #88 composite player in the country) Davonte Davis (4 star and #121 composite player in the country) and three transfers that two were quality contributors in Justin Smith and Jalen Tate In 2021, Muss only took one HS recruit Chance Moore (4 star and #97 composite player in the country) and four transfers with three that were quality contributors and one that will be (Jaxson) With those two classes, we went to back to back Elite 8's. In 2022, Muss landed six HS recruits for the #2 class in the country and #1 in the SEC by a lot. Nick Smith (5 star and #6 composite player in the country) Jordan Walsh (5 star and #18 composite player in the country) Anthony Black (5 star and #22 composite player in the country) Derrian Ford (4 star and #57 composite player in the country) Barry Dunning (4 star and #85 composite player in the country) Joseph Pinion (4 star and #88 composite player in the country) That's six guys rated at Jaylin's level or higher, with three insanely talented 5 stars. If Jaylin stays and Toney stays, this team should be the #1 team in the country. If we lose Jaylin and Toney, we will hit the portal for a couple bigs and maybe another experienced wing. Fardaws Aimaq of Utah Valley (18.9 ppg, 13.6 rpg, 43.5% from 3) is ours if we want him. We have to be careful and see what Jaylin wants to do though, because if we take him then Jaylin is probably gone. Ideally, we keep Jaylin, Toney, Devo, and Jaxson. I think Vanover, KK Robinson, Chance Moore all transfer. I think Notae moves on to professional ball. Lykes, Umude, and Wade are all out of eligibility. Kamani Johnson is a question mark. He loves it here but he's just not going to get any run so I could see him trying to be a contributor for his last season. We need a big in the transfer portal for sure. Would love Aimaq as long as it doesn't affect Jaylin. Could also see us going after the Murray St big man KJ Williams. Exciting times
Excellent write up as always. Thanks Bert. Curious where you think Wade ends up? G league? Overseas? I think the attention and his effort in the tourney may have helped him in his post ncaa days. He really shined against Gonzaga. He was definitely one of my favorites to watch this year.
Honestly? I hope he pursues a NFL career as well as something overseas. I think he could be a very good TE and there were several NFL scouts that checked him out during the season. Not sure if that’s something he wants to do or not. I don’t think he’s quite G league material.
Practicing against talent makes the team better. He’s an elite athlete that got off to a rough start in his college career. Game is still a little fast for him but he shows flashes. Regardless of what he decides, I’ll root like hell for him to be successful.
I'm pleased as a peach. This is the best collection of individual talents we've ever assembled for our basketball team, and that's saying something because we've had some amazing teams. The test will be to get them to play as a unit. If we do watch the fuck out.
It appears we are about to land this big fella transfer https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/fardaws-aimaq-1.html
I think it is a good thing for the state when home grown talent is successful for future recruiting Hate when our HS players go out of state, esp to other SEC schools and end up beating us and or going pro
Developing into a stretch 4 since he’s not going to be a 5 at the next level. Maximize your potential and improve your stock. I know the family well and I know he’s doing well here financially, and could have a big NIL season next year. It makes things easier to keep them around when they can push six figures while still being in school.
I don’t think Notae really needs to leave. I have no idea what his draft stock is but if not it’s off to Europe when now he can just stay and get paid off his NIL’s.
He’s going to be 24 and has maximized his potential I think. I won’t complain if he stays but he won’t have near the production next year and will be playing off the ball more, when he needed to show he could run the point this year. I think it’s G-league time for him. He’s a Daryl Macon type
Yeah wasn’t sure how that was going to work with guys usually leaving to go get paid even if it’s not in the NBA and now they can stay and get paid still.
JWill just signed a big NIL deal that will be announced soon. I think this bodes well for our chances of getting him for another year.
probably wouldn't be signing an NIL deal if he was leaving? would be huge if he comes back for another year.
Wouldn’t say it’s a guarantee but it certainly improves the odds of him staying, especially if it’s a bigger deal. Devo just announced one with Canes too.
