Revisiting Reinkaos tonight, listened to it when it came out and was so disappointed I don't think I've listened to it since 2006. Gonna revisit the shitty Emperor and Dimmy Booger albums tomorrow. Edit to add: Not sure who Chaos Invocation is but they have a new album I listened to earlier and it was delightful. Also, Reinkaos was meh as expected.
i saw them touring for Magma a few years ago. it was a really good show. they sounded great and played flawlessly the entire time.
Given current events can I interest you guys in some Ukrainian death metal? The bands have new albums released today, the Necrom track is from their demo ep that is a bit rough production wise but they don't have any updated shit on their bandcamp, but the new one is a much better mix.
Reinkaos is great. I know that opinion is unpopular. God Of Forbidden Light and Xep-I-Set or however you spell it still regularly in my rotation. it’s like Carcass’ Swansong album.
saw them in 2008-09 opening for Behemoth and still think about when they played Backbone. Not really into them anymore but they’re great musicians
Best tracks IMO were Black Dragon, Xeper-I-Set and Beyond The Horizon. Swansong was love at first listen for me. Edit to add (so I don't make too many individual posts in a row): Went over the two Emperor's I ignored back in the late 90's or whenever they were. IX was better than I remembered, has that muddy mix that I hated when I first heard it. PromNight or whatever it's called was annoying, but I did enjoy a couple tracks from it, Empty/Wordless Chamber/Thorns.
I absolutely love Emperor, but I only listen to the studio recordings up till Anthems. If I’m listening to anything off the two you mentioned, it’s in the context of their live records.
sorry - know that feeling all too well one of your favorite artists is rendered unsupportable…it’s brutal
I just read about the Ghost lore with all the Papa’s and had no idea about it and it’s pretty fucking cool. Just thought he changed costumes every so often
I am about to begin a great 5 weeks: 3/30 Charleston: Slipknot 4/26 Atlanta: Testament / Exodus / Death Angel 4/30 Atlanta: Nine Inch Nails 5/3 Charleston: Megadeth / Lamb of God / Trivium / In Flames
With that album art and genre combo, pretty confident I’ll like this before I listen to a second of it. Edit: I guess this band is the same guy as Afsky so definitely will check it out
got some good non Metal ones coming up here but not much Metal comes through Nashville and I’m not much for traveling for shows: 04/07 — Boy Harsher 04/16 — The Serfs/VR SEX 04/29 — Molchat Doma 05/11 — Rotting Christ/Borknagar 05/11 — Six Organs of Admittance 05/19 — Primitive Man/Body Void 06/24 — Kraftwerk 08/24 — Blondie/The Damned but if anyone on here comes to Nashville for Metal shows and I’m missing them, post em in here if you hear of any good ones
i'm going to Rotting Christ a few days before you. should be amazing, they are one of my favorite bands.
i figured you would like it vocals are pretty wild, has like a black metal meets king diamond thing going on
If you guys just dig medieval stuff in general I suggest checking out some acts like The Soil Bleeds Black, The Moon Lays Hidden Beneath A Cloud and to a lesser extent the absolutely amazing Sopor Aeternus and the Ensemble of Shadows.
I saw Watain reference this artist on their ig googled them and was quite frightened by the imagery Im scared to check out the music lol
Oh that’s pretty interesting about Watain. I’ve never been a fan but nice to see they have good taste. Sopor Aeternus is an interesting blend; they’re like orchestral/baroque/medieval meets goth rock/death rock meets German avant-pop aka Dagmar Krause. It takes some digesting but I think it’s incredibly rewarding. It’s worth just checking out the whole scene from which it sprang — Neue Deutsche Todeskunst if dark wave/post punk/ebm ever falls into your wheelhouse of tastes. (Oh I should say early AUTUMN TEARS is another great old medieval band.)
It took awhile but I did end up completing my 90's female fronted symphonic/goth/doom quest. Now I'm going to rank them because yeah. 01. Nightwish (ranking was never in question) 02. Within Temptation (ranking also never in question) 03. Tristania 04. Theatre Of Tragedy 05. Sirenia 06. Leaves' Eyes 07. After Forever (I overlooked them back in the day) 08. Madder Mortem (it's all about that sensational debut) 09. Lacuna Coil (these guys are a bit overrated) 10. The Gathering (speaking of overrated, christ) 11. Rain Fell Within (short discography didn't do them any favors) 12. Xandria 13. The Sins Of Thy Beloved (your beloved is worthless) 14. Meshuggah (just wanted to point out that their new one leaked today)
Nothing we had a fairly spirited back and forth on this 2-3 pages back in this thread, has some good commentary on their discography
Obzen is where you start for sure. Chaosphere has probably their most popular song. I like Koloss a lot too. Would stay away from Catch 33 unless you really love everything else.
How is the pompous Folk Metal style (80% of what Napalm Records signs) not the worst thing to happen to music since Rap/Metal? I love old rap. I love metal. Hardcore, sure. I can even do some metalcore if done right. Can't do this troll/folk shit.
I haven’t explored any folk metal in years however I always liked Hades, Agalloch, Otyg/Vintersorg, Orphaned Land, Amorphis and Windir.
Whoa, whoa, whoa... two completely different worlds. and when they're not signing horrific 'folk' bands they're signing shit like this:
Oooohhhhh, new black metal band. Don't know anything about them other than from Poland and none of the lyrics are English. Those Poland bands can be sketchy but I'm hoping this one isn't cause I kinda like it.
Looked at buying Dying Fetus tickets today for a show over a month out, I must be interneting wrong because it showed the only option is a resold ticket for over $250.00.
