my general rule of thumb is the more formal terms like pitch/kit/etc are fine, it just gets weird for me when you start using everyday brit slang that you'd never use in any other context
Yeah I feel like there's a certain amount of British vocabulary that has kind of been integrated into American soccer slang. But there are also people who go way past it as some sort of performative thing
Whenever I play pick up and there’s rotating keepers, I always get confused looks when I say I can play goalie or that I can go in net for a bit now. You can’t take the hockey culture out of the man.
The area in England called Derby where all the derivations of the word originate from was originally old English for Deer Village which was spelled Deorby. Whoever decided to spell it Derby is the incorrect one here.
Iran playing with the home crowd, miles from home, in the damn heat is going to be a brutal game for the entire group
Qatar got cut off from Saudi and Emirati airspace for a while because of Qatar’s “backing of militants” Plus the Saudis engaged in state sponsored pirating of their sports channel and aren’t big fans of Al Jazeera Not a lot of love lost
Iran is not a cakewalk at all. They have some talented guys up front and are really good at parking the bus against more talented teams. If you recall, Argentina beat them with a late Messi free kick and they drew Portugal
Fitting that on Black Friday England football will be kicking off at roughly the same time as Nebraska football.
I’m eager to have both sides of my heart torn apart simultaneously Or just the one since I’m used to it with Nebraska
He was playing for England youth during this break. Not holding my breath. He also wouldn’t be close to making this roster
What is it that makes you think he’s ready to now? In a better system than Dike played in at Barnsley, he’s producing at a much lower level and Dike can’t get called in
I don’t think any of our 9s are anywhere close to ready to help us win games against talented teams, he was the best player for his team in their win against Tottenham in the FA cup, Arteta talking him up to the English press, and he’s the most talented of the bunch by a country mile so why not get him on board - seems pretty obvious
It seems pretty obvious we should play a 20 year old who plays in the Championship and has a total of 8 career league starts and has 2G and 2A in 12 games because of 1 game?
Player A at 20 years old in Championship has 2G, 2A and a 6.67 average match rating Player B at 20 years old in Championship has 9G and a 6.90 average match rating Which player is it obvious to play?
where did I say “play” you obtuse ninny…get him to switch and throw him in there and see what happens why would we start a 19 year old striker with zero goals in six months and counting or another that is just find their feet? the World Cup is in 8 months - that’s a lifetime in international soccer - 8 months ago musah hadn’t even started for us we should be trying to build the pool with talented players aggressively
