This Wolves In The Throne Room shit is pretty good. Not sure why I've had them confused with December Wolves this whole time. According to Metal Archives they're from a city a couple hours north of me, surprised I haven't seen them play live. Don't know if they're part of the sketchy BM scene or not.

Yeah they are very safe / non-sketch.

Two Hunters and Black Cascade are my favorites by them. The new one is good too.

I'll have to revisit, been a long time. I remember their first album being black metal and then a shift in sound after that.

They shifted into a pretty brutal black thrash attack for that album. Think they went more industrial for the album after “completely…”

His album, Trilogy, is near perfect top to bottom in my opinion and pretty much every other listener's. Likely won't find a negative review out there.

Paradise Warfare and Looking for Tracy Tzu are godly

Only 6 tracks but damn if I didn't enjoy every one. Still baffled how a 90's band signed to a record label the size of Avantgarde (they were well known back then) avoided my non-stop metal lifestyle. I doubt there was a single day in the 90's where I didn't listen to metal, all 3,652 days.

Speaking of Avantgarde bands, I like this logo.

Didn't even realize Avantgarde is still around and operating as a label. Checking out the bands on their roster, lots of ambient/noise black metal and just black metal in general. Listening to a band called Moonlight Sorcery right now, pretty good melodic black metal. Thinking back I believe my first Avantgarde purchase was Ophthalamia in 1995, Via Dolorosa. Remains one of my favorite black metal releases to this day.

IT did great things: Abruptum, War, Opthalamia, Vondur. Also Kvist was great — another often overlooked early black metal act is STRID. Great depressive black metal from 91

loved the last one, and this is like that. just tasty riffs everywhere. if you like the first 2 Uada albums, you will dig this.

cover was a little sus (Mufasa metal?), but it delivered.

Listened to this last week, meant to post about it. Good stuff.

Others I’ve enjoyed the last week or two are:
    - Nite - Voices of the Kronian Moon (melodic black metal with kind of NWOBHM guitar approach. Wish the vocals were a bit more varied but the guitars are worth it)
    - Morrow - The Quiet Earth (kind of a crust punk/post metal blend, one of the better releases I’ve heard this year)
    - Izthmi - Leaving This World, Leaving It All Behind (atmospheric black metal with folk influences. Kind of like if Agalloch had DSBM vocals)

Some recent stuff I think is worth everyone’s time:

Strong female lead vocals on what almost sounds like an AIDEN BAKER project

    Heavy blackened industrial metal

this guy kinda swaps between melodic raw/depressive black metal…

and this super post-punk styled black metal

Great raw desolate black metal from two really solid contemporary acts

This isn’t always my cup of tea but I thought it would interest some here as it’s in the DEP/Converge wheelhouse and this record label should be on anyones radar who likes that stuff

Anyone into Spectral Wound would probably dig Lamp of Murmuur. I’ve posted them a couple times in here I think but here’s another:

Also this is an interesting new project from the ridiculously busy Erech Leleth (Ancient Mastery, Golden Blood, Carathis, Haunted Palace). It has sort of rock n roll female vocals and a late 70s/early 80s rock n roll vibe. But it has proggy elements and power metal moments, some blast beats, a little dungeon synth. Pretty good stuff.

ok i am 2 songs in and really enjoying it way more than i would have thought.

the clean vocal melodies are a bit much at times, but the riffs are great, and the vocalist has always had one of my favorite death growls.
