True story. I wore a bright ass yellow WuTang t-shirt to a "block party" where a bunch of neighbors gather in a driveway and have drinks. Had 3 different guys ask me what my shirt was about. I knew right then I'd fucked up.
I think my problem is when I lived in Jax the people(everyone) that lived there wouldn't stfu about it and how great it is.
I also don’t believe that story at all. Average age in our neighborhood is probably 35-45. White or not, there’s very few people in that demo who don’t know who or what WuTang is.
ive always gotten that from the Tampa people I know and not from people in jax. Most people I know here understand jax has its faults. my biggest complaint is how spread out everything is. if you could take all of the good parts of jax and put them in one area of town it’d be great here
Yup, to get anywhere its 45 minutes minimum. That's why I preferred the beaches. Everything you need is out there, but if you need to hit Town Center JTB isn't too bad relatively speaking. When we first moved down there all of the different areas were fun to explore.
I’ve never gotten that. I was born and raised here and can name 20 other cities I’d rather live in. I feel like the people that would argue for it love living in the little bubble of their part of town and/or transplanted from somewhere really terrible(read: Ohio).
Like, people that live at the beach and don’t cross the intercoastal for anything don’t really “love Jacksonville”. They love every beach town in Florida
I guess we were different because we did everything there. Saw shows at the Florida Theatre, San Marco and all of those areas downtown. Went to see the shit Jags product a game or two a season, a regular at suns/shrimp games, etc. It's mostly during the week when I don't want to deal with traffic and walk two blocks to the sand with a cooler and chair.
Riverside is easily my favorite area but fuck it's 40 minutes there. Not bad going there but getting back sucks. Uber is dumb expensive if you're boozing.
Nocatee really does suck. The age of your kids will influence my recommendation, along with your willingness to send them to private school St. Johns has the best public schools in the area, but you don't have to live in Nocatee (see #1 above: It sucks) to benefit... I lived in Ponte Vedra Beach, about 2 blocks from the ocean until my step-daughter graduated from high school. Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach,San Marco, Avondale & Ortega would all be great places for your family. Unless they get into the Magnet program, you'd want to send them to private beyond elementary school. See #1 one more time
We leave near Nocatee but not in Nocatee. I get why people hate and love it. I really like my area for raising a kid. I get dbl though but most of my neighbors are from Cali and New York. But I agree next house is probably somewhere in at johns but not a large sub division if at all possible
St John's bros. So happens my partner is looking at moving to the area this summer and her co-parents are looking heavy at St John's for the obvious reasons. I need some non-Nocatee areas to check out next weekend to give her some ideas and I'm just not super familiar with it.
Silverleaf on 210 seems promising. Shearwater is nice too. There's a lot of stuff around Durbin but I'm not overly familiar. Rivertown is nice but I worry it could be Nocatee-lite.
I was in Jax last week. Ate at Treylor Park in Nocatee. Loudest place I've ever been in my life but everything was good.
I wasn't planning on being in Jax as long as I was. Took the kid to Disney. I'll be back in June. Miss Jax Beach this time of year.
Guys weekend in 2 weeks was relocated to Jax Beach b/c my friends are a pain in the ass. Age is ~45yo on avg. Not huge strip club guys, not big partiers on avg. Golf is likely out due to a few old guy injuries in the crew. Was thinking a fishing trip 1 day, need recs for fishing charters Need something to do during day on day 2 Bar and dining recs appreciated Thanks gents
Not sure on fishing charters but I’d recommend hanging out around Atlantic beach which is a couple miles north of jax beach. Go to lemon bar during the day. Maybe hit up Pete’s for a bit. Good amount of bars and restaurants in that area to check out as well.
Went deep sea fishing one time when I was a kid. Think it left from Mayport. We hit rough water and had to go inside. I threw up a bunch. That’s all I got.
Assuming you’re staying at the beach, this is the best it has to offer: Coop 303 - elevated southern food, cool rooftop bar Medure - higher end restaurant Safe Harbor Seafood - amazing fresh seafood Eleven South - good food, but overpriced… should be full of people your age group Doro - high end tweezer food Dos Vatos Tacos - best tacos in Jax by a mile Marker 32 - solid menu, on intracoastal Palm Valley Fish Camp - great location on intracoastal Valley Smoke - great bourbon selection on Intracoastal… just okay food & overpriced Barbara Jeans - meat & 3 style, on intracoastal Taco Lu - popular spot, WAY past it’s prime… go for the bar, skip the food Bearded Pig - solid BBQ ABBQ - Also solid BBQ breweries Southern Swells - great IPAs, sours Engine 15 - German style beers Reve - solid sours bars Lemon Bar - outdoor beach bar Casa Marina Hotel oceanfront - rooftop Lynches Sidecar
We were randomly invited to dinner at Coop303 when I was there two weeks ago. The food was a lot better than I expected. Also very sad to here about Taco Lu. I did think the food went down a notch after they moved from the first location.
Is there a place in jax or at Augustine that serves good duck? I’ve never had anything but wild duck and want to try good duck breast? Or should I just buy one and cook it? Jorts
we still like it but pre Covid and kid it was my wife and I go too. We settle for convenience these days with shitty cantina Louie
nothing about Treylor park in ever looks good. Had friends visit and got soemthing there and it wasn’t good. Nocatee restaurants leave a lot to be desired. Kookaburra cofee is soooo much better than Starbucks though
