My almost 7 yo hs really got into fishing last year or so. We aren’t fully ready to throw artificials all day, and I don’t really have tackle that likes throwing a big pinfish or big chunk of cut bait, so I just picked this up this morning. Shimano Nasci 4000 (which is nicer than my older Stradics I use) and a bull bay rod. Spent more on the rod than I planned but it is nice. Double foot guides all the way up and crazy light. Got orange braid since my kid likes bright colors. I want to try it out on some snook if this rain stops

I want the new banshee rod they have that won the icast awards. But don’t need a new rod right now. I’d bet he love my custom rod if he likes bright colors

Had 2 inches of rain yesterday, so the river was high and muddy. Was able to get 2 great ones though, 19" brown and 16" brook.

Yellow and brown Pat's Rubber Legs did me well. The 12"ish brown was feeding on the surface, but I couldn't get it to bite on dries. So I put a blood knot in with a tag 3 ft above the Pat's and put an unweighted flashback pheasant tail on the tag. First cast and I caught it.

Only caught 6 white bass in the creek, seems like I was a few days early. I'm off next Friday again, so I'll go try them. Did end up doing about 6 miles round trip paddling so a bit stiff this morning.

That works. Have a lot of fishing buddies there with you? I was lucky and no one was there until I was leaving on Friday. I usually move upstream enough that not as many people come by anyways.

Yeah, I was only able to fish until ~10 before I had to go help my dad. Was tough to walk away when I knew more were there and actively feeding. I was catching them on this pat's with pheasant tail droppers.

I've got some of those, will probably tie a few more. And some red midges. A couple guys on a fly fishing forum that live in Denver said it's worth the drive there (they recommended the ever popular Deckers) over the other rivers I was looking at. Should get 6 hours in.

Yeah, I'll land in Denver around 9:30 on a Monday. 1:30 hour drive will probably get me there ~noon. Then I'll fish local to Longmont/Boulder in the evenings and Thursday morning if I can before I fly out.

Beautiful VA native brookies today. Probably caught 40. Private stretch of water in the next county over. They destroyed the first cahill I used. Nothing over 7 or 7.5", but I just about got tired of catching trout today, which is something in and of itself.

Several pools like this where I caught 3 or 4 out of one hole. Little to no pressure on these fish. Helluva hike, but a great day.

The remnants. He was a good soldier. Switched to a blue dun after 25 or so. They were blasting anything today. Probably go the rest of my life without catching that many natives in one day.

The walk in wasn't bad, 1/4 mile or so. The high gradient, boulders, and slick rocks made the actual fishing "hike" among the most strenuous I can remember. Maybe I'm just getting old. I'd do it again tomorrow if I had the chance. Like you talk about, the further you walk, the better the fishing.

Back in the day would keep them occasionally. Don't eat the big ones.

Grilled, never smoked. Wad not a top 5 eater imo.
Smoked sounds like a good idea to make a fish dip tho

I’ve caught and made fish dip from Spanish mackerel before. Prefer mullet or something else

never caught a kingfish, but have always wondered what they do with those huge ones they catch in tournaments and throw up dead on scales on the dock

to be fair they want clean water not clean air. I just think they are nuts but also realize it’s not really about the cause it’s to show off their boats

These guys are wild, however they burn through manatee zones and no wake zones every year and have pissed some people off

The weather is shit today, and they are going to run out of room to run inside soon. That crossing from st George area over to cedar key/crystal river is going to be rough if they don’t hug the coast and try to run open water

My cousin said they are supposed to abide by no wake zones and stuff. He said he tries to ride outside the icw. First year he did it he said there were crazy swells. Only two boats cut straight across to cedar key last year. Hells bay and yellowfin. Sea pro broke down trying it. My cousin got caught going inside around the keys and got stuck waiting on the lockes.

looks like hells bay and yellow fin are gonna run away with it. Lake and bay are struggling and they are in protected waters. If you see their seats they are taking a beating. Plus only 60hp vs 70
