this came up in a thread about phonte yesterday and damn i love when he just spazzes out dude made it so easy to jump into my top 5 of all time
hopefully it slaps. Little worried given how soon it is coming out after last year's album. But the singles have been great
Good song with bars on bars. Hoping Q gives a little bit of the grimy, psychedelic beats ala Blank Face LP though. Groovy Tony / Eddie Kane and Kno Ya Wrong are some of my tops from him.
Talib was insinuating for a long time that Madlib was holding the album up. Maybe this was some sort of weird compromise
Read that it was non hip-hop people putting their fingers into the creative process that held it in perpetuity.
The first album was a big part of my college years. No one was talking or listening to it but I’d find some random nigga and we’d :stepbrother gif: over it.
He was always real cryptic with it and everyone kinda just assumed he was eluding to Madlib. I’d be glad to know that’s not the case
In 2020, Talib Kweli said that Black Star had recorded a whole album with Madlib but that it would never come out: “People who never made a beat, never wrote a rhyme in they life got they fingers in the pie and are being disrespectful to what me and my brothers built. It’s in Gods hands now. I’m on to other things, life is too short to be disrespected by culture vultures. Maybe y’all will get to hear this album after I’m gone.” But now, it’s happening. The second Black Star album is called No Fear Of Time, and it’s coming out next month. https://www.stereogum.com/2182814/b...duced-reunion-album-no-fear-of-time/news/amp/
i used to dj our hs basketball games and basically every dance function i remember playing respiration for the team out of the tunnel and getting one of the bigger crowd reactions i ever had
Probably get to listen listen tomorrow. Full can headphones, isolate myself in my quiet work spot and listen. Definition, RE:Definition and Respiration are like anthems in my household. My last name starts with a B so whenever my kids or I do something stupid, we’ll say the B-boys will be boys. Shit this has been my twitter banner forever….
Solid episode in general. Yasiin and talib go in depth as to why the album is handled this way. Also got Roc and Black Thought in it
So far 2022 (super fucking strong year for rap) 1: Melt My Eyes See Your Future- Denzel Curry ^^ This is an all time great album imo 2: Tana Talk 4- The Butcher 3: Ghetto Gods- Earthgang 4: God Don’t Mistakes- The Machine 5: Ramona Park Broke My Heart- Vince Staples Incredible start to the year. We’ve got Drake dissing Push on a Jack Harlow album (lmfao drakes a buster) to look forward to the week prior to Pusha T dropping an album. Kendrick and JID potentially later this year
Also the drake verse on the Jack Harlow joint is super good and the shots at Push is nice bait if he’s got something in the chamber. That being said, Drake putting that verse on a Jack Harlow album, in a sense, helping Jack with gas for his album, is why Drake is the lamest and worst thing that’s ever happened to rap music. Jack hasn’t earned that at all
It’s great that we got that lineup above in the first quarter of the year I’ll have Denzel on a steady rotation for months. He doesn’t miss love the new Earthgang too
Push was on Desus and Mero a week or so ago saying he don’t like putting that kind of energy out there now that he has a son.
