As soon as he missed the clear I said they’re going to lose on that. Tough way to go down but DU seemed to play the better game.
It wasn’t the way I expected Michigan to be outplayed. Typically it’s been a lack of defensive structure or players cheating on D to get rushes. Denver really controlled the puck for most of the game. The Gophers had done that for portions of some games against Michigan but not as much as Denver did today and Michigan still typically found a way to get some rushes.
Literally same. Fucking sad. And now my dogs are scared. We had our chances, but nothing sustained. DU played better. Mel sucks, amazing recruiter.
7 first round NHL draft picks, and 4 of top 5 in draft and you can’t win a natty? Gotta fire the coach Spartan dawgs still last big ten team to win a natty
We still have Guy Gadowski as our coach and we will still run the 1980s oilers offense and just shoot 50 shitty shots a game and hope for the best. Yay.
Mankato forecheck is relentless. Gophs will probably need someone to make a skill play because they are getting outplayed as a team pretty badly right now.
I liked the last 3 minutes of the 2nd. Most of the prior 37 minutes have not been great except the beauty of a 2-0. We finally got more of a forecheck and pinched defenders.
We were thoroughly outplayed. I’m disappointed after we looked so good last weekend. The first 2 goals from Mankato weren’t great. The next 2 were pretty damn good though.
Mel is an x and o improvement from red but despite the ridiculous talent, coaching wise um just isn't up to par with the top coaches.
I think mel is an above average to good coach but the difference between that and great to elite coach issuch a big deal in college hockey because of the age disparities of the rosters.
Tis the nature of college hockey. It's an incredibly random sport exacerbated by an incredibly random one off scenario. And then add in physically developed 24-25 year olds playing uber talented 18-19 year old kids and results can be wonky despite talent optics. In UM's case, Mel seems to be a roll the ball out and go coach. Which is unfortunate, because it doesn't take advantage of the scope of the talent. Additionally, it is vulnerable to good coaching and physicality eliminating the time and space of our kids want, and not having a good coach to scheme around that.
I feel like Knies was the best freshman we’ve had since Kessel and Vanek. Both of them were more advanced offensively but Knies has a more complete game.
Funny game. Mankato looked like the better team for 45 minutes but couldn’t build a lead. Denver gets a rebound to tie 1-1 and then ends up winning 5-1 with 2 ENGs.
Who are some names MSU should look at? LSJ was throwing out anyone and everyone, including a few guys it sounds like they have no shot at (WMU, Minny St., and Quinnipiac).
