My bad. Misread the intent, but it was still a fair point. It would be loony to ask anyone to always move the ball haha Played competitively growing up. I was never great or anything, but I won a few regional / high school tournaments. Peaked out in my early twenties as a slight +. Pretty much quit for a decade. Started back up a couple years back and have been in a much bigger battle to get back than anticipated. It’s been wildly frustrating I quit again in Dec after realizing how mad I was all the time to audit things. I realized I was only happy playing when I played well, and my definition of “well” was absurd. Essentially stupidly good ball striking days, which were uncommon. I sought out Rudy specifically because of his reputation for being more of a mental game / course strategist expert than a mechanical guru All that aside, I think his approach is good for people of all levels, and he caters appropriately from what I’ve seen
to be fair to you - being good enough to have at one point been a plus handicap and now being a 10 handicap while still getting the fleeting glimpses of excellence golf gives you must be super fucking frustrating
Rudy’s a good guy and and all but this is a stretch. He lucked into being the local pro at Tiger’s nearest course. Credit to him for parlaying it into a lucrative career. He has repeatedly said he didn’t have to teach Tiger much and, in fact, learned more from him.
I don’t know the whole truth. Who can. But I asked him directly how they linked up yesterday. The version I got was Rudy was a few years into running a Southern California junior circuit and kinda simultaneously coming into his own as a teacher after leaving professional golf a few years prior. Earl initially went someone he knew, but the guy sent him to Rudy. Tiger was 4. I’m not sure when they stopped working together, but he had stories from the late teen years. He doesn’t volunteer Tiger tidbits, and I’m don’t pry, but they happen. Obviously, the connection led to a ton of opportunity. And he wrote a book. But he also charges $25/session today fwiw
Yeah. Stock shot is high with slight fade. Big miss is left. Yesterday was a fairly typical round for me stats wise on an average day. 8/13 fairways. 11 GIR. Two penalty shots from lateral hazard drops left off the tee. 1/5 up and down. 37 putts with 5 three putts. Shot 82. Zero club throws though, which was a PB
Stating the obvious but you need to spend the same time and energy working on you short game and putting. Can’t have 37 putts and score, regardless of how well you hit it
We-ko-pa was incredible and playing the tpc stadium course was one of the coolest experiences I’ve had. It seemed like there was a course pulled straight from a postcard every few miles in the Phoenix area. Will be back ASAP
This is BIG! but the take away I get is that deadline for these waivers in April 25, so these should be popping up
I'm a degenerate gambler and dfs player and have only a vague recollection of that guy even existing.
Got our Bandon tee times from Tron today. I’ve got one round with Neil, one with Soly, one with Ben, and another round still tbd
On the 2nd hole with Soly just casually mention you thought he would hit it further and watch the fun begin
Soly has said he was trying to chase Neil so he can hit it as far as him. You’d just have to ask Neil how many under par he is
Didn’t realize your Brandon trip was an NLU trip. That’s awesome. Hopefully the guys are mostly not dicks.
Not sure if I shared this story before. 1996, Masters weekend and I'm playing golf at a local track with a club that has like 10-20 guys depending on turnout. Fernando Valenzuela and Kenny Landreaux would play occasionally as the two were always looking for a game. It's Saturday afternoon, we're done and settling up at the bar, watching highlights of the Masters. I asked Fernando what he thought about the tournament and he said "If anyone can blow that lead, it's Norman. He can't finish."
I thought it was well done. Threw on the 1997 final round and Tiger outdrove Rocca on 9 with a three wood. Outrageous.
“I have seen my father’s great relationship with Hooters over the years…” is just an all-time incredible quote.
