Took the Samsung Frame back and got the 77” LG G1. Soooo much better. Still doesn’t beat my old Panasonic Plasma that I moved into the bedroom, but close

My LG C9 definitely beats my old Panasonic plasma by a lot, but the Panasonic beats everything else by a lot.

The panel on the frame is like C grade quality.

All things considered, its a nice form factor, and a couple cool features. For picture quality, it is completely average.

Go back in time to about 2010 and tell a tv expert about the 65/77" C1 and the price and they would truly not be able to believe you that such a good tv was coming so fast for such a reasonable price.

The 77" G1 just went on sale at Staples btw if anyone is interested. I got with Best Buy on it today and they are refunding me $502. I was shocked by that.

G1 has LG's new Evo Panel and it sits flush to the wall like the Samsung Frame. Other than that they are pretty similar from what I researched.

G1 and C1 are the exact same other than the thickness of the frame. I got a G1 as a replacement last year because my last OLED had burn in. LG gave me 70% of what I paid so just put it on the new G1. I can’t use the G1 wall bracket though because my studs are too far apart. So it sticks out a bit from my wall from what it should for the G1 using the old bracket.

    This

Get a 2x10 or 12 or whatever and cut it down to size and put it in between two existing studs.

That's what I had to do to install a pedestal sink in one of my bathrooms.

Wasn't that hard to do imo.

That’s a lot of work to get the TV flat to the wall. It still looks great just not to its full potential. I would have just gone with the C model next time.

I really dont understand what is different about this specific tv that is making the mount difficult. It sounds like this tv is supposed to be able to be mounted “super flush to the wall”? Or?

Edit: nevermind. I was looking at the staples website which gives shit for description. Bestbuy explained the “gallery” features. Kinda seems like a waste to pay high end money for a feature you’re not really getting. But it does look like a super badass tv. Congrats on the pickup.

It’s not a hard mount but the mount that is required and comes with the TV is not very wide at all. So it would not hit two studs in my wall. So I had to use the old bracket (which was wider and drilled back into the studs after determining the new one wouldn’t) and mount the new bracket to the old bracket. So as a result, I’m about an inch off the wall instead of flush.

My 6 series TCL Roku TV does a fine job showing really dark tv or movie scenes

My 4 series (small bedroom tv) does an absolute dog shit job. Really makes me want to replace it.

So stay the fuck away from Sony TVs.

My living room 65 inch, the 900e died a few months ago so I took it to the Sony authorized repair shop and $550 later, they replaced the main board and I am back in business.

Our Sony 55 inch in the bedroom, 800e just died this week. Won’t turn on, no lights, nothing. Looks like it’s probably the main board as well. Did some reading this week and it may not be that difficult to replace. Ordered the parts and they should be here next week.

I have a TCL 6 series on the back porch (covered), and a TCL 55 in the garage and both have been rock solid. (Knocking on wood).

I have a 70” XBR from 2015 and it’s going strong. Just had to move it and holy shit balls is it heavy and a tank. Metal rear case and beefy. Doubt a new 75” OLED will be this heavy.

Yeah, I think you got a bad couple sets or maybe the E series is weaker. THF

I'm running 2 older XBRs (an 830C and a 950G) and I have no issues. 2015 and 2019 respectively, both older and newer than your sets.

No - it's definitely not noticeable for sports though which I would assume is analogous - maybe not?

Tv content, whether via rabbit ears, cable box, streaming, apps, etc, is not broadcast above 60 fps.

Most of the time its 30, and only rarely (sports) is it at 60fps. Your tv will try to smooth it out via tricks and AI, but the source is only 60.

Movies and tv shows are usually shot in 24/30 fps anyways, so no benefit to playback on 120fps panels.

With that said, the best upscaling, performance, picture quality etc is found on tvs with 120hz panels, so just get one of those and be done with it. Only seek out 60fps if you're trying to go the budget route.

Also, seemingly every retailer is pushign the tar out of the C1 (and A1 too) for Super Bowl.

Perhaps the best value offered in the last few years. Visa gift cards w/ extra multi year warranty included.

The American networks seem to have the most modest interest in pushing the boundaries of higher resolution or higher FPS.

My uneducated opinion is that the progress we are seeing often comes from another decision maker that is party to the production pipeline, not the American rights holder (NBC, ABC, Fox, etc).

This is another convo for another place, but the Olympics are available from the host in 4K. NBC is (as they did in Tokyo) downconverting to 1080p for production pipelines, before upconverting it back to 4k for transmission (on limited partners/platforms for certain events).

The pandemic is not helping things, perhaps ATSC 3.0's bandwidth for 120fps will accelerate progress.

NBC claiming not to have the infrastructure to produce the Super bowl in 4k is ridiculous.

major American networks suck. Fox is the only sports provider offering consistent 4k and it’s upscaled.

Grabbed a 65” C1 and it is being delivered on Sunday. Kind of wanted the 77” but the price jump to 77” didn’t seem worth it. The 65” C1 deals all seem to be in the $1800-1900 right now, which feels reasonable. Another $1200 for the 77” doesn’t feel as reasonable.

I just moved into a new house and my old 55” Samsung is a bit too small for my new living room space, so we will see how the 65” does. I’m really hoping I don’t need to jump to the 77” as I also just spent a bunch of money on a new lawn tractor for my now much larger yard.

I’m really really looking forward to firing up Vanguard on my PS5 and playing in 120hz just to see how it feels. On the other hand, I mostly play Warzone in terms of gaming, which doesn’t support 120hz, but I’m assuming the next iteration coming this fall will.

i haven’t shopped for a TV in 12+ years so I’m p lost and would love recommendations (or spec guidelines)

looking for ~65” screen but also willing to go smaller if the 55” has way better picture or something, only for TV/sports/movies, and would like to keep it around $1000 or so

    thank you

I kinda regret getting "the frame" - I feel like I could have gotten a better TV for the same price and we honestly never really use the artwork feature

It's still an awesome tv - just think I paid extra for a feature that most people will probably never really give a shit about

the tv subreddit thinks the frame is a terrible tv and has an autopost in every thread about not buying it

i think I'm still going to get it, though, for my bedroom. the art will look great + it's already a second tv in a 1-br apartment, which feels like a ton. i'd basically only use it for when i want to watch tv in bed. for my primary room, i have an oled.
