sorry seeing this late. They change the menu up a lot but the legendary items are the potatoes, clam soup (off the menu right now), leeks, and cake. But everything good.

No worries. Did potatoes, leeks, anchovy butter, ham and cheddar, rabbit and lobster sausage, socca crepe, and cake. It was fucking lovely

Really just a horrific thing that happened, my great grandmother had an apartment right there. I was already extremely alert in the subways, now it’s another level.

I’ve been there twice because girls I dated wanted to go, I’d say it’s 35% good food and 65% instagram culture.

The fire alarm went off at around midnight and the hotel was evacuated and you’re not allowed to take stairs back up to the room so the entire hotel then crammed into the lobby to then pack in one of the three elevators to go back up to their room

idk what the internet chatter is but I’m not gonna stay here again

Well my last couple trips to NYC has created a monster. My fiance now really wants us to move there. She has a nice job prospect but she isn't quite grasping how a 30k pay bump from Birmingham, AL isn't going to be great in NYC. Best I can figure to have some semblance of a life in a decent location rent is going to be 5k.

About 250 ish. We could survive, live in a decent place in Hoboken or something. It's just not going to be blowing money in soho and going out to every meal like we do on vacation to NYC.

I lived here on less than $60k with roommates and then my wife and I made less than $160k combined for like 3 years. We had a 1br in Crown heights that wasn't big but served us plenty well and we still had more than a good time. We're much higher now than we used to be and have a 5br 3ba with a backyard in Bushwick.

All this is to say, you can do it if you want to. Saying you need $300k-500k to enjoy living here is bullshit IMO

My gf and I make about $275k combined and it’s very doable. Rents right now are insane and we are lucky to be at $3,500 a month in midtown Manhattan area but things will come back down sooner than later.

I had a really nice one bedroom in a doorman building with a gym, laundry service, and rooftop between Gramercy Park and Peter Cooper village for $4k a month.

We didn’t own a car or pay for insurance, though. If I lived there again full time I would want a car and parking adds up quickly.

Maximize convenience. I have a 3 year old now and we would probably get a house upstate for the weekends near some other friends who have recently done the same.

Also to just go to Boston, Portsmouth, Newport, Hamptons, Portland whenever. We used to use the train a lot but much harder with a dog and child.

Which at $250k, they won't need to. You can live in Hells Kitchen, LIC, Astoria, Greenpoint, Bushwick, Bedstuy, RedHook, or any number of other places without roommates at that kind of combined income.
