The cubs only having one error so far this year is by far the most surprising development of this team. I wish they would just cut Simmons so we don’t have to deal with his shitty vibes. Hoerner hasn’t been a nightmare at short yet
I think the worry with Hoerner is his bat. wRC+ of 85, 61, and 104 don't leave people with a sense of confidence that he'll be able to contribute offensively Small sample sizes and whatnot should be noted.
You need to roll a full year with hoerner to see what you've got if healthy.. He's flashed really well at Ss this year
6 straight fastballs yikes. Ross needs to figure it out. Nico shouldn't have been on the bench with an off day tomorrow and Rivas should be our starting guy at 1st.
That's a brutal loss today. Twice have men on second and third and one out and can't get a single run and game winning run scored due to an error. Can't play small ball if you can't capitalize on opportunities like that. Suzuki is amazing, Happ has been his better self, and Contreras has been his usual self. The other pieces around them are just way too unreliable. Ortega had a good game today but Rivas should be getting DH for all right handers we face.
We lead the league in batting average and had ten hits today. We can hit the ball. We suck because our pitching is so terrible.
We also lead in OPS, 5th in slugging, most runs scored. etc. Again, we can hit the ball, we will lose 80 games this year because our pitching sucks.
Schwindel should never be starting at 1st when Rivas is in the lineup. Rivas is a +defender at 1st and Schwindel is not.
We’re still top ten in almost all categories. You’re blind if you think we’re losing games because of our bats.
And that's all due to the bullpen. Our starters pitch 3-4 innings and leave with a multiple run deficit and then our bullpen holds them to try and give our bats a chance to play catchup. Starters xFIP is 20th. Bullpen is 3rd. Today was a perfect example of how the whole season has gone. give up 3 runs in the first three innings and the bullpen holds them to nothing but an unearned run for the next six. We've had two games over the last ten that we didn't allow at least 4 runs. That's not a winning recipe. We're not even twenty games into the season and we've lost three games where we've scored more than 5 in the game.
He hates ownership and because of that he can't help but take every shot possible at them even when it's unwarranted and ill informed. The offense doesn't have enough pop in the lineup, it's missing an elite power bat. Outside of that it's been revamped to work counts, take walks and put the ball in play. It's not the reason for our struggles or why we won't finished above .500 Our starting pitching has been bad and not by design. The top two guys are struggling early and not going deep in games. The plan was never to tax the bullpen when Kyle and Stro are pitching... and right now that's the case. If they figure it out we may be interesting and if they don't we will sell off at the deadline. It's just that simple.
Heyward has no business being in the starting lineup. Love him forever for the speech but enjoy the time on the bench.
It's interesting to see how pitchers are approaching at bats with Suzuki now. They seem to be targeting the outside corner repeatedly. Not so much because he can't hit the ball there but because he seems to take far more pitches there and he's getting rung up on calls that should be balls.
Its becoming a tend with the team but specially him. His eye is so good teams are just banking on umps being shitty.
I was hoping to see him when they come to Dayton next month. I doubt he’ll still be there with how he’s been hitting.
