As someone who just flew emirates first class and Qatar business class, it feels great being in the gated community. I fly economy 99% of the time, but treating myself to luxury on a 15 hour flight is well worth it.

Wait til this guy finds out about the A380 and them not even letting the riff raff in economy on the same floor as first and business class.

The article mentions people having to walk by the Business Class pods on the way to their Economy seats which is dumb. Pretty much all wide body planes board at the mid doors so Economy passengers have to turn right while Business passengers turn left. And in some airports they have two different jet bridges.

My wife and I are looking at booking our next trip in the coming months and am considering both Banff and Lake Tahoe. Neither of us are outdoorsy people, but do enjoy hiking, kayaking, etc. Anyone been to either (or both) that could weigh in on experience?

Not sure if I did a follow up in here but flew Emirates Suites on the A380 and the new Singapore Suites on the A380 on our recent Maldives/Thailand trip. Truly mind blowing experience, all on points of course. The Emirates soft product is unbeatable, the Singapore suites hard product is ridiculous though except for the lack of a shower.

Next up is Cinque Terre-Dubrovnik-Santorini-Paros-Antiparos-Athens in July/August. Yes it’s going to be unbearably hot and crowded but does anyone have any recommendations, esp for Cinque Terre/Dubrovnik/Paros? This is our last big trip before settling down so it will be a little bittersweet

I've been to both. I spent about a day and a half in Lake Tahoe and probably four days in Banff area. Lake Tahoe is nice. Banff, and really the Canadian Rockies, is one of my favorite places on earth.
Lake Tahoe will have more non-outdoorsy things; shopping, casinos, etc. Those are things that don't really matter to me, but may to you.
Banff has much more, and in my opinion better, outdoor options. The hiking is great. If you want you can paddle on a lake like in Tahoe, there is whitewater rafting as well.

When are you going? A friend went on one of the swamp tours during the winter months and there was nothing to see. They blamed it on the weather being too cold which makes sense but it may have also been that the tour just sucks.

We stayed in Corniglia (below) when we did the Cinque-Terre and it was not remotely as crowded as the other towns. The drawback was restaurant options were limited.

The beach in Corniglia is really just a pier and rock outcroppings, but it was very secluded and I liked it.

When you are set to come back to the US do you just bring your test results with you and they check them when you board or how does it work?

Also I have a bunch of rapid tests approved by FDA and I assume these are good if taken within 24 hours of returning?

Yes, just have your test results either in an email (screenshot in case WiFi is spotty) or a piece of paper. Be sure the name and DOB on the results match your ID.

Some airlines just glance, but I've some that pull out your ID to verify.

In Brazil they just looked at my negative test -- which could have said Daffy Duck for all they knew.

Fly out of London tomorrow morning.

Ours we had to order from the American Airlines website and take them on video call with a proctor.

a friend who flew on Delta, also out of London, a few days ago just had to submit photos of his test results and upload it to verifly. He said as far as he knows no one checked it. Not at security or customs

2 weeks ago we flew belfast to LA via London. On check-in Belfast people said London people would check it. When we got to London AA people said we were already cleared and Belfast people were supposed to check it. So really no one checked it and its all over the place.

Flight prices are (understandably) ridic at the moment. $800 to fly into Denver on a Thursday and out Sunday. Connections both ways. Less than a year ago it was about $450 or so nonstop. Flights to Aspen were double the cost to Denver, but that’s kind of to be expected.

Not looking forward to checking the price of a flight to Spartanburg, SC for a wedding that’s a month from now.

I'm going to Elbow Cay in the Bahamas in June. Only reasonable flight prices to Marsh Harbour were on Silver out of Fort Lauderdale. Scott's Cheap Flights popped up with American out of Orlando for $390 round trip. Quite the itinerary. Leave Saturday night and fly to Philly. 20 hour lay over. Leave the next night and fly to Miami. 14 hours layover then fly Miami to the Bahamas.

I went with my family to the maui tournament in 2018 and yeah the flights the week of Thanksgiving were expensive. Now when you add in the post covid issues not surprising they are that much. The tournament is awesome though so if you can swing it money wise I highly recommend going. Because of tv the games are all so early, and you only get to go to your teams game, so you still have most or all of the day left to be in Hawaii those three days. Plus the luau on Thanksgiving was awesome.

    Thank you friend

got Delta/LATAM 25k one way award tickets. Transferred points from Amex.

JFK to São Paulo redeye and then a quick puddle jump to Rio, same itinerary on way back. Will be awful in economy but 100k points for two round trips to Rio is unbeatable.

Wife and I just booked our honeymoon (it'll be over our 6th anniversary of knowing each other and nearly our three year marriage anniversary, thanks immigration expenses and COVID) and we're going to be doing two days in Bologna and two days in Florence if anyone has recommendations. Been to Bologna before but it was a me-and-my-brother motorcycle trip mostly around him wanting to go to the Ducati factory

Florence is awesome. Eat steak and gelato every day. Wine tour to Tuscany is a lot of fun if you have time. The Uffizi is a world class museum there

I woke up with a wine hangover early the morning after the wine tour and went for a jog…just kept running towards cool stuff and ended up watching the sun rise over the Arno at the Piazzale Michelangelo, super cool experience if you’re up early one day. The sun hits the Duomo and the Ponte Vecchio and not gonna lie it got me teared up. Such a random great memory, reminds me why I love travel so much every time I think about it.

That flight back was sooo much nicer without a mask.

In the Charlotte airport now and I’d say less than 10% are wearing masks.

I'm trying to decide between Nepal or Peru for November.

Worried about working in Asia and that time difference. But also, fuck it.

Can get my flight from Seattle to Kathmandu for free with Chase points, only 23 hours. Sea --> Singapore and Singapore --> Kathmandu. Super efficient.

Much appreciated. I went back in 2017 but wasn't very prepared -- just explored Kathmandu and Pokhara, no trekking. This would be mainly a trekking trip.

Thinking 4-5 days to Annapurna Base Camp (can go solo) and then a 10-day tour of Upper Mustang, which borders Tibet (required to have a guide). Just a lot of time off-grid.

I've always wanted to go. Last time I asked him about what should an out of shape white guy do in Nepal he just told me all the sports bars in Kathmandu that have NFL Sunday Ticket and chicken wings because "that's what I go do." He's rather Americanized now.

Im missing my daughters birthday this year because flying round trip London to Atlanta would have been almost two grand and I can’t afford that. Just that flight would have cost more than the entire honeymoon trip

But I’m glad the airlines can do even more stock buybacks ahead of yet another government bailout

We barely scratched the surface outside of Edinburg.

We took an all day tour that was a lot better than I expected. There were just 5 other people on our little bus and the guide was very good. We left Edinburg, the hit Stirling castle (kind of touristy, but pretty views), Callander, Doune, Tyndrum, and came back through Loch Lomond national park.

The final leg of my trip a few weeks ago ended in Kathmandu. Whew. I don’t think I was prepared for it. I’m well traveled (40+ countries) and that was one of the least developed big cities I’ve been to.

I wonder how much the city is still impacted by the earthquake. Unfortunately, my buddy I met there was supposed to have a few excursions planned, but managed to do nothing. Would have loved to do Pokhara.

Going trekking and exploring all the nature Nepal has to offer would’ve been exceptional. Staying in the city for five days was not.

    Anyone else flown yet?

At DEN/DFW yesterday, seems like 75%+ of travellers were not masked, slightly higher in terminals I think, than once boarded.

Flight crew sample size is small, but it was like 3/6 unmasked on my one leg.

Yesterday from London to Charlotte and then to Memphis I never saw any crew masked. I’d say it was closer to 90% unmasked.

workers in Charlotte were peeling mask signs off in the terminal.
