Took her to the vet they gave her a shot to slow them down. Told me besides running a lot of costly tests that might not find the issue there isn’t much to do. Will up her dosage and they told me she isn’t in pain right now but we might want to start thinking about doing the unthinkable. She is doing “well” right not stole every animals food this morning. So she is not ready. I don’t know if when the time comes I’ll be brave/strong enough to end her life.

After years of dealing with multiple monthly seizures my brother took his dog to a homeopathic vet. They said to try eliminating protein in the dogs diet. Apparently protein causes brain swell which triggers seizures. So the dog went on an anti-protein veg diet and stopped all meds she was previously on. After about a month or two she stopped having the seizures. She averaged about 2 seizures a year after living the first half of her life with multiple seizures a month and he says those two seizures a year they could trace back to the dog getting into some protein somewhere (trash, neighbors kid, etc). If the dog got into protein they could count on a seizure happening within the next 12-24 hours. Keep in mind this dog was an epileptic from go, had seizures as a pup so other peoples situations/conditions with their dog may be different. My brother probably mentioned some other shit but that's all my unswole brain could retain.

did he just feed her/him “human food” or is there vegetarian dog food? Flash is horrible with “green” stuff she won’t eat anything green/vegetable related.

It was a mix of vegetarian dog food and people food. Has your dog always had seizures or is it just recently?

since a pup and she is almost 6. We have had her on several medications and hemp oils. The meds she is currently on stop/reduced them a lot but yesterday was a bad day for her. It’s scary when she has multiple ones in a day. She is extremely needy today.

It might be worth trying a new solution, maybe sit down with a homeopathic vet and ask some questions. Their dog was on all the traditional seizure meds until about 8 or 9 years old, then the complete change in diet and no more meds, reduced seizures to nearly nil and she lived to 15 which is about the max for her breed.

    She's gorgeous.
Our winter could not ever be described as long or cold, but it still takes my pack a while to get their summer legs back.
On the hottest days our 9AM walk has to be short and we jump back and forth across the street to walk in the shade as much as possible.

My dad was dog sitting the pups while I was out of town for work and my bff was in Colorado working on our air bnb. She flew back into okc and my dad picked her up from the airport with the pups. He’s 78 now and not as sharp as he’s been my whole life. Seems to lose focus. Without diving to deep into the back story he made a bad decision and stopped to talk to someone walking their two large America bull dogs. He had the back window all the way down and didn’t seem to notice Darwin getting more and more excited. Darwin jumped down to say hi to his new friends who proceed to rip him up. If it wasn’t for the fact that my wife is toughest woman I’ve ever met and was out of the car, kicking dogs and grabbing Darwin and throwing him in the truck (all before my dad had unbuckled his seat belt or the owner of the other dogs had even tried to pull back) Darwin would have died. He landed right between the two of them. 127 stitches, a dozen staples, and a drainage port later he’s stable and I’ve flown home early from my gig. I might have quit my job to be able to do it but no fucking way i wasn’t come immediately to be his nurse for the next week.

This is the worst cut but there are about 9 similar ones.

He’s healing up good. Will have some scars but he’s already forgotten he’s being held together by stitches and staples. Turns out I did quit my job by coming home but that job was replaceable anyways. My lil one goes in for ACL surgery tomorrow and Darwin’s stitches out late next week.

It's the biggest fear having my dog get his ass kicked because he wants to be friends so bad. He's been bitten by multiple dogs. Usually they're small but He's been cut. He's the biggest pussy that simply cannot defend himself. He has no instincts other than to run.

Anybody here have experience with dog epilepsy, seizures, and giving them phenobarbital?

One of our dogs has randomly had what seem like dizzy spells. He acts dizzy and like he’s a little drunk/wobbly on his legs. They last for less than a minute, and after a few minutes of recovery, he’s back to being his normal self. Even wanting to play. It’s only happened three times that we’ve witnessed. Once almost a year ago and now twice in the last week. Our vet is suggesting seizure medication, but I’ve seen a full blown dog seizure before, and it’s way more intense than what’s happening to our dog. I get that it could be very mild seizures. But I’m hesitant to commit to a lifelong medication with side effects without being completely convinced it’s epilepsy. And it sounds like our vet was suggesting it based on it happening multiple times in short period.

I’m wanting to hold off and see if it happens again and how soon. But if it does, then I know we’ll have to give him the medicine. So just hoping someone has a dog that takes phenobarbital and is doing well/happy/no issues, etc. to ease my mind if it gets to that point. TIA.

We had a dog that had some seizures but it wasn’t a common thing. She had other issues resulting from it, so I have nothing to add but tell you I know how helpless and shitty it feels to watch them suffer through an episode. I’m sorry.

was dog sitting for some good friends about 1.5 years ago. On the last day with 2-3 hours to go before the owners were home their greyhound (they also have a Jack Russell) that’s a sweet boy attacked my Jack Russell/dachshund/etc. mix.

Just a big dog and my grumpy (and absolutely lovey dog) having an ordeal but the greyhound basically did the same thing as your ordeal to my dog. I was 20+ miles away as their house was in the country & my wife can work remotely. She called me panicked as fuck and informed me of the situation, I told her to get the nearest emergency vet ready and I’d be there.

good news, my dog is ok (like yours) but went through an ordeal. I also learned that a Ford Escape can drive 90-100 mph in wine country curvy backroads.

I 100% understand you saying, ‘yea, fuck this I’m going home.’ Dogs aren’t kids or any human, but it’s the next step down from a feeling of pure love.

glad everything is going well for you

A little over 3 years ago my youngest son told me he was getting a pitbull puppy. I told him he was stupid but he was an adult so it was his decision. Fast forward three years, a new job 1000 miles away for him where he couldn’t take the dog (so I took him in), and meeting my new wife who fell in love with me and this silly dog, and now I have the best dog I’ve ever had. Even after he blew BOTH ACLs in his rear legs and had to have double TPLO surgery to the tune of $8000. Did I mention he’s the best boy ever?

I’ve watched this crap before. When Carlos was 5-6 months old, he climbed the stairs to the loft above the shop in my brother’s shed. I told him to get down so he did. Launched his dumb ass off a 12 foot ledge. Luckily my sister in law is a vet. Went to the house and told her we might need to head to the clinic while Carlos was limping around. By the time she left the house he was sprinting around chasing cats.
