Does Gotham by gaslight still have the same voice actors and animators and the animated series from the 90s?
im glad they skipped over the origin. Nolan explored enough of it. Regardless of the version of the hero… we all know his origin. I was so glad that they didn’t waste a lot of time on it again.
Agreed. Didn't need to rehash it. Definitely didn't need to see Bruce's parents did for the 100th time.
Watching it now Edit: 20 minutes in. It gives me Sin city vibes Edit 2: I’ve now drank enough beer that I’m not sure what’s going on. Will try again tomorrow
the movie's great for a nap or two. Nice thunderstorm at the start, people talking softly, nice slow pace.
Hot take - I watched Dark Knight again on the weekend and... apart from Ledger's Joker, I really didn't enjoy it that much. Begins was a lot more fun for me and is probably in the Top 2 with Burton's Batman for me (with 2022 at #3).
It's weird - I think I had a slightly different memory of TDK than the reality. There were long parts of it that were a struggle to watch and some really weird plot holes - why did Batman have to be the sacrificial lamb to keep Harvey's name clean? There were other options and that never made any sense to me - blame his death on Joker, FFS! Didn't like the Harvey/Rachel relationship and the sub-plot with the Wayne employee much either.
No idea about them being "clanky," but I remember seeing/reading that the heaviness of the boots and slow walking was somewhat inspired by Michael Meyes/Halloween.
I partially share this take. I find jumping in to watching Batman Begins at any point to be easier and more engaging than doing the same for Dark Knight. I enjoy all of the Joker scenes and action set pieces of TDK more, but enjoy BB more as an overall movie.
But hou could never hear Michael Myers coming. At the beginning they heard him deep AF into that underground tunnel before he burst into action
The more I've watched Bale over the years the more and more I hate that voice. It was so unnecessary and anytime he was delivering dialogue it was ridiculous. That line at the end of TDK about the city being ready to believe in good just makes me laugh.
My friends and I still occasionally scream, "Where's Rachel?" and "Swear to me!" at each other in Bale's ridiculous voice. It's still funny. Also really liked the new Batman and loved Pattison's interpretation of the character far more than I expected to
I also have a friend who goes full Michael Caine Alfred when he's drunk. Apparently the Nolan trilogy is a pretty big part of my life.
Are we supposed to assume that the gang on the subway were part of Joker’s crew or just dressed up as him for Halloween?
It looks like there’s a couple that had the stitches and we know that Joker has already had a big crime run so he’d be well known and all over the news if they’re not actually “henchmen” or whatever. Saw where could be the Red Triangle gang for Penguin as well
My take is they're knockoff street thugs who painted up their face after being inspired by the actual Joker (who Batman captured a year previously)
Didn’t realize the one with half his face painted that they try to get to hit the guy is the same actor that plays Tim Drake in Titans.
Took me 3 nights to finish it. The first 20 minutes or so when it was all monologue was really cheesy. The rest of the movie settled in. I enjoyed it. But also not really sure why the felt the need to make it (Besides money, obvi) It wasnt some new twist, or unique way to tell a batman story. There was no interesting angles or even social commentary.
Social commentary in a super hero movie? Hard pass - it’d end up like that shit ass recent second Star Wars movie
You didnt think zodiac killer Riddler / his alt-right group of shooters was a good twist on the character?
Should have kept my thoughts to myself. So much for the tolerant left comic book nerds! I'll bow out now.
Well, the Riddler spent most of the movie killing corrupt and awful people. And Batman spent the movie trying to stop the Riddler. Maybe I’m outing myself as some white nationalist, but I was just confused by that character development.
Rewatching and going back through this thread and the early takes were rough (mine included). TheGrifter has since passed away but I wanted to give him credit here. Dude never got to see the film.
