Our fans obsession with attendance kills me every time. I understand it’s about all we have these days, but holy shit I’d say most players have about 10 things on the list higher than spring game attendance.

I know none of it is good, but that transfer out of TCU according to Sipple (bobot) has a $500,000 NIL deal at Nebraska.

do we know where/what it's for?

I thought the Volleyball team would get the best NIL deals, but 500k is a lot.

I think football will always get the best deals just because. Initially everyone got excited about who had social media followers and all that which will work to an extent for some athletes. But I also think, there’s a lot of deals in place where it’s all just “legal” pay to play now. A booster/donor could give a guy $100K, for what? Who knows…

It will be interesting in a few years if some people feel like they want “more” from their money. Obviously the pre-NIL bagmen won’t care but will some donor/business decide they actually want to get something that helps their side out of the deal? Or do they just like being able to write off an expense for their company and that’s enough.

I was guessing some would be on social media, but in the Nebraska market I was thinking more TV ads or short clips they can upload to FB or farmersonly. Maybe meet and greets at a sports store or car dealership.

Yeah what I meant was initially everyone thought it’d really depend on social media following, basically like “influencers” get paid for ads, but I don’t think the big NIL deals will even matter. If a team wants a player they’ll get the money and who knows what the expectation for a return will even be. Could be a case where a guy gets paid $100K to make one post on Instagram and that’s the “service provided” to earn his money.

Ya, I get what you're saying. It can now be legitimized instead of just dropping off a bag. Hopefully Buffet will distribute some of his wealth to our basketball team so we can win some games.

Having spent the last 10 years on the west coast the idea of spending a day, on a weekend, going to a spring game is high comedy.

tbh, when I move back to Nebraska I can think of about 10k things I’d rather do as well.

‘practice, we talkin’ bout practice. Not the game!’
(I’m pretty close to finding 10k things I’d rather do than watch the game but I like self-infliction of pain.)

If we didn’t have two decades of futility I’d legit still be excited about the spring game like I used to but all that is dead now

I’ve only attended a few, but I would assume most people who go also look at it as an excuse to get outside, tailgate, go to the Railyard or whatever it is they do after being inside the previous 3-4 months due to winter. If I look at it that way I guess it makes more sense, than just going to watch the actual “game”. Plus I’m sure a lot of people take their kids either for cost reasons or just the fact they don’t want to bring them to a real game they actually want to watch.

The nice thing of not having a ton of things going on is you can get stuff done around your house.

    This weekend we have:
    1. Sunfest (Palm Beach): Average to Below-Average artists -- Sam Hunt, GooGoo Dolls, Nelly!, Lil Wayne, etc.
    2. Miami Beach Polo World Cup
    3. Fort Lauderdale Air Show
    4. Game 7 of Miami Heat vs Hawks (if it goes to 7)
I'll probably only go to the air show though. My brothers boat is down there, so I'll watch it from there. If there's a game 7 (doubtful), a friend already has tix and I'd go with him.

In a couple weeks I'll be going to the Formula 1 - Miami Grand Prix.

Edit - just read this and my intention was to show all the stuff going on and how I feel pressure to go to events and it would be nice to not have as much going on. Not to brag.

100% will miss being able to go sking and to the beach the next day and only wearing a winter jacket on days I go skiing.

I’ll also miss not having to choose from the lesser evil in politics and mostly being able to walk down the street and legally get weed while I make a sports bet from my phone with the tax money going to the state.

the wine is pretty damn good as well.
