The Tuf gif also provides a whole lot of context in to our coaching that year. Our talent has been down but also had one of the worst coordinators ever
In 2019, Ryan Day fired the whole defensive staff when he was hired, except DL coach Larry Johnson. 2019 was a great defense, but the DC Hafley took the BC job after one year. Co-DC Mattison had health issues and missed some games in 2020. 2020-21 DC Kerry Coombs was in way over his head. After 2021, Day fired everyone again except Larry Johnson.
Probably, we have a decent replacement we think when it happens just need Grandpa Knowles to fix our D, isn’t more talented than 2019 but significantly more than last 2 years
Our DL depth is atrocious, warm bodies at this point are needed. Ty Robinson - 23 games played Damion Jackson - 20 games played - walk on Colton Feist - 12 games played - walk on Nash Hutmacher - 11 games played Marquis Black - 2 games played Mosai Newsom - 1 games played Ru’Quan Buckley - 1 games played Jailen Weaver - 1 games played Brodie Tagaloa - 0 games played
Our best defensive player from last year broke his leg early in the second game of the year, he's coming back and a lot of the talented kids we've recruited are expected to start this year.
Don’t you guys have the same DB coach who just got carved up by a GA and a shitty, undersized WR playing QB in the Mayo Bowl
that was bateman who we fired. he had to take a step down in competition can’t remember where he ended up tho lol
We played a lot of freshmen and sophs on defense last year, and have a great freshmen class incoming on defense this year. The expectation is that the young guys continue to improve. Our best DB was a true freshmen at CB who started every game. Our next DB broke his leg and is back. Three of our top six in sacks were true freshmen DL.
Lotta people say (not me) coachin backas in gainesville is where you cut your teeth on the road to elite co-dc status Spoiler
The NCAA released portal stats. In 2020-2021, only 54% of players entering the portal found a new school. These look like numbers for all sports, not just football. https://www.espn.com/college-sports...bs-players-entered-portal-enrolled-new-school
We’re up to 14 defensive players with 2022 eligibility who have left since September, and it’s basically a list dukebuckeye drafted for our new DC to follow.
There’s video of this kid passed out drunk in the driver seat at a McDonald’s drive thru with the car in drive. He deserves it Edit: Found video https://www.nbc4i.com/news/local-ne...hooker-asleep-in-car-in-mcdonalds-drive-thru/
holy shit Mitchell is still there? sweet lord what a bust he turned out to be. Pope flaming out was not surprising. I saw him play and came away wholly unimpressed. think he just had the right look to him to make someone want to see if they could mold him up.
Agreed. Seems like a great kid and has shown incredible perseverance. Just a limited football player.
